Here's a criminal who probably won't get much sympathy.

Orange County Sheriff's deputies found Deandre Ford hiding under the bed when they arrived at his Winter Garden home this afternoon to arrest him for robbery and cocaine possession.

After ignoring several requests to surrender, Deputy Sheriff Jeff McCowen released his K-9 partner, Kai.

Unfortunately for the dog, Ford had armed himself with a large butcher's knife.

Deputies managed to secure the suspect, but they noticed that Kai was bleeding badly from the mouth. McCowen brought his K-9 partner to the Lake Underhill Animal Hospital for examination and treatment.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A man accused of stabbing an Orange County deputy dog was in court Tuesday.

De-Andre Ford was polite while speaking to the judge, but deputies say Monday he stabbed a deputy dog in the mouth while they were inside a house in Winter Garden.

Ford was wanted for failing to appear in court on drug and robbery charges. The judge ordered him to stay in the Orange County jail with no bond.

"Kai," the K-9 officer is recovering from his injuries. While the injury is considered to be very serious, Kai is expected to recover. Ford, a 21-year-old with a long rap sheet in Orange County, will be charged with aggravated battery on a police dog in addition to his outstanding charges. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
