MALONE, N.Y. -- Malone police arrested an Ellenburg Center man this weekend in what officers are calling a severe case of domestic violence that included the man running down his estranged girlfriend with a vehicle.
Dolan J. LeClaire, 36, of 147 Brandy Brook Road, was charged with second-degree burglary -- a class C felony -- and is being held at Franklin County Jail without bail.
State Police Capt. Robert LaFountain told WPTZ.com the incident is one of the most sever cases of domestic violence area officers have seen.
LeClaire, who was arrested by Malone police at the local Econo Lodge, allegedly forced his way into a residence Sunday and removed his estranged girlfriend against her will.
LeClaire forced the woman into his vehicle and attempted to take her to his residence in Ellenburg Center, police said. While en route to his residence, he allegedly beat the woman, police said.
In an attempt to escape the assault, the woman jumped from the moving vehicle n West Hill Road in Ellenburg Center, police said. LeClair allegedly stopped the car, forced her back into the vehicle and continued to his residence, where the assault continued, police said.
The victim was able to escape LeClaire's home through a back door and called police for help. New York State Police responded to the scene and began searching for LeClair. He was located at the hotel not long after.
The victim was transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, where she was treated for a numerous contusions and lacerations. She was later released.
LeClair was arraigned before Town of Malone Town Justice John Marsden and committed to Franklin County Jail without bail. The investigation is continuing in conjunction with Franklin County District Attorney Derek P. Champagne and additional charges are pending.
