COLUMBUS, Ohio—A man was struck by a vehicle Saturday evening and later died from his injuries.
Columbus police continued to investigate a fatal accident in which 54-year-old Shannon Bennett fell off the hood of a moving car and was injured when it passed over his body.
Bennett died from his injuries Saturday at about 7 p.m. at Mount Carmel West, nearly two hours after the incident at Bay Club Circle on the city’s West Side.
Witnesses who saw the incident told NBC 4 Bennett was trying to prevent 43-year-old Belinda Keeler from driving his car and told her that she had too much to drink.
She got in the car anyway, witnesses said, and he jumped on the hood to discourage her.
Keeler was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide Sunday.
Bennett’s autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
Both Bennett and Keeler lived in the same apartment complex on Bay Club Circle where the incident took place.
CPD’s accident investigation squad continued to investigate.
