Gaya, India: In two separate, but related incidents,
a 15-year-old boy was abducted allegedly for forced marriage and
two of the protesters of the abduction incident were run over by a tractor.
According to reports reaching the district headquarters, two motorcycle-borne kidnappers lifted
Lal Babu, a Class X student, as soon as he came out of a tuition centre at village Lodipur.
To terrorise the villagers and pave way for smooth escape with the boy,
the abductors opened fire and a villager was critically injured in the firing. The critically injured man, Praveen Kumar, was first taken to the Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College Hospital.
As villagers blocked traffic to register their protest against the abduction,
a tractor driver lost control over the vehicle and ran over the protesters. Two of the protesters,
a woman and a child, were crushed to death while more than half a dozen others sustained injuries.
Further infuriated, villagers torched the tractor and broke the glass panes of the passing vehicles by pelting stones.
Confirming the incidents of abduction and death of two protesters, deputy SP Rajvansh Singh said that the boy was abducted for forced marriage. He claimed that one of the criminals involved in the abduction has been nabbed and raids were being conducted on the basis of revelations made by him. The arrested criminal has been identified as Surindra Yadav.
