Donna Hammerstone Stole From Alzheimer's Patient

A registered nurse in Bucks County is accused of ripping off thousands from an Alzheimer's patient.

45-year-old Donna Hammerstone, of Perkasie, surrendered herself to Doylestown police on Friday.

Prosecutors said she stole more than $22,000 from the 71-year-old man.

Investigators said she spent the money on items like women's lingerie from Victoria's Secret and a hotel room at the Showboat Casino.

Donna Hammerstone ducked into court under her bright pink umbrella Friday morning. She walked out branded by Bucks County prosecutors as a woman who abused, deceived and stole from an elderly man.

Hammerstone is charged with stealing 22-thousand dollars by befriending and then abusing the trust of the 71-year old man. She met him last year while visiting friends at a Willow Grove apartment complex, according to investigators.

The man's family tipped off investigators who say Hammerstone used the money on lingerie, laptops, jewelry, music lessons, clothing, home repairs and even caught up on some back taxes.

"It's a classic example of what can happen during these though economic times," said Assistant District Attorney David Zellis.

Hammerstone turned herself in on Friday. She's free on 40-thousand dollars bond and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Lingerie, laptops, jewelry, music lessons and clothing don't seem like items you would buy if this was evidence of an economic crime. Now if the list went: paid utilities, bought food and caught up on morgage then I would believe it was caused by the economic recession. Nurses like this give all nurses a bad name. Thanks Hammerstone now I have to ask Morbid to change my screen name!

Aww, not all nurses are bad. My roommates mother is a nurse and wait. . .yeah, she's a bitch never mind. I agree that this woman was just plain greedy and no matter what she did for a living she would have found a victim.

Wonder if her friend unwittingly paid for that, too.

Not all nurses are bad, Ronda. :-)
