Las Cruces police have arrested the parents of two children who have tested positive for methamphetamines.
Isaac Alvarez, 30, and
Veronica Alvarez, 27, were arrested after drug test results on their children came back positive. Both parents were charged with two counts each of negligent child abuse. Isaac Alvarez also faces one count of trafficking heroin.
On the afternoon of March 27, Las Cruces Police were called to the Coachlight Inn on Motel Boulevard when
two children, ages 5 and 6, were found locked out of their room. Their parents were
not in the room and not at the motel. Officers waited at the motel for more than an hour and the parents never showed up.
The children were eventually turned over to the custody of the state's Children, Youth and Families Department.
The children's parents were later identified as Isaac and Veronica Alvarez. They were questioned by police and drug tests were performed on them and their children, LCPD reported.
The two children tested positive for methamphetamines. Veronica Alvarez tested positive for methamphetamines and amphetamines. Isaac Alvarez tested positive for methamphetamines, amphetamines, codeine, morphine and heroin.
