Stacy L. Scarpelli, 33, 505 Knarr St., DuBois, was sentenced to 10 days in jail and two years probation. She was fined $400 plus costs. She was also ordered to complete a nurturing program.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, a woman was traveling on Knarr Street June 13 when she saw a 13-month-old child in diapers playing near the curb. Because she didn't see anyone close to the child, she turned her vehicle around and went back.
She picked up the child and stayed with him about 3 minutes until an 8-year-old girl came out of the residence at 505 Knarr St. The girl said she forgot she was supposed to be watching the child. When the woman asked where the babysitter was, the girl said her mother went to Wal-Mart and she was watching the child.
The woman called police and stayed with the children about 15-20 minutes until the mother, Scarpelli, returned home.
When police arrived, Scarpelli answered the door and
said to her daughter, "way to go. The cops are here." She told police she had to go to Sheetz and her daughter was to be watching her brother.
When the officer repeated to her what she had stated, that the daughter was watching the baby, she stated sarcastically "she was supposed to be" acting as if it was the girl's fault it happened. Scarpelli claimed she was only gone 15 minutes.
