Serbian Man Cuts off Own Finger and Eats It in Protest

BELGRADE (April 27) - A Serbian union official who chopped off his finger and ate it in a protest over wages that in some cases have not been paid in years, said Monday he did it to show how desperate he and other workers were.

"We, the workers, have nothing to eat. We had to seek some sort of alternative food and I gave them an example," Zoran Bulatovic told Reuters. "It hurt like hell."

Skip over this content Bulatovic, a union leader at the Raska Holding textile factory in Novi Pazar in southwest Serbia, used a hacksaw to cut off most of his left-hand little finger Friday.

Bulatovic said he decided to act after his deputy, "a single mother of three, was the first to say she would cut off her finger. I could not allow her to do that," he said.

This story is really sad, actually.

Uhh. I am never gonna bitch that there is nothing to eat in the house again.

Oh, I thought his name was going to be Rod Blagojevich, Illinois' infamous Serbian-American warrior and reality show wanna-be.

Serbians are kinda savage like that. @_@

Yet another story to remind everyone to feel lucky for having been born in a wealthy, relatively just western nation.
"Now that ceaseless exposure has calloused us to the lewd and the vulgar, it is instructive to see what still seems wicked to us. What still slaps the clammy flab of our submissive consciousness hard enough to get our attention?"

WOW that shows some sheer dedication to a cause. It also kind of reminds of the those movies in the SAW series where the guy had to cut off his leg to get out of shackles but only b/c it's cutting off body parts....okay so that part was totally useless but I'm leaving it!

In all serious, this story makes me thankful and sad. Thankful b/c I have food and shelter and while I am not rolling in the $$ I know after work is done money will be paid and I have a decent life. I think growing up and not having to really go w/o much of anything and surely never going without basic needs being met makes this even harder to comprehend, maybe it's just me.
