Six dogs stolen from woman who runs shelter
FARMINGTON, MO (KFVS) - You usually hear about animal shelters with too many dogs to take care of.
A woman who runs a shelter near Farmington has a different problem--missing dogs.
Anna Madsen runs the Love-A-Dog Rescue and Sanctuary outside Farmington, Missouri.
She feels her own safety may be in jeopardy.
Right now, though, she's more concerned about her missing dogs.
Anna Madsen says on Saturday night she came home to find her
house in disarray and six dogs missing.
She says a bank statement and a ransom note nailed to her wall with a knife explained it all.
The note demanded
six figures in cash for the safe return of the dogs. It also told her not to tell anyone or the animals would be killed.
"Basically the letter said
listen stupid old lady, do not call the police, do not call your family and do not call your friends or we'll, they'll kill my dogs," she said.
Madsen believes whoever is behind the crime may be familiar with her and her operation because the dogs they took are very dear to her.
"They did take a lot of my favorite dogs with them. I love them all, they're all my kids. I just want them back and I want them in one piece and I don't want them harmed," she said.
Madsen gave the note to police and says she has no intention of paying the ransom, despite wanting her dogs returned safely.
The St. Francois County Sheriff's Department is investigating the case, calling it a burglary and an open investigation. They are hoping someone will call with information.
