A Pasadena man has been accused of kidnapping and abandoning the 5-year-old son of a woman he lives with after an Amber Alert was issued.

Jesus "Jesse" Arredondo, 56, has been charged with abandoning a child under 15 years old and kidnapping, according to Harris County records. He is in the Harris County jail on a total of $50,000 bond.

His is scheduled to appear in court to face the charges Wednesday.

The child's mother told investigators that she left her child with Arredondo about 9:50 a.m. Saturday while she went to work, Pasadena police said.

Police said that she tried to telephone Arredondo during the day but could not reach him. She alerted police about 10 p.m. after she returned home from work and found that Arredondo and her child were gone.

Sunday morning officials issued an Amber Alert for the child and within an hour, Houston police located a green Ford Explorer in northeast Houston that Arredondo had been driving.

He was arrested and the child was returned to his mother unharmed, police said.

Investigators said that Arredondo had left the child unattended several times in the SUV during the nearly 20 hours they were missing. Arredondo, they said, was involved in drug-related activity during that time.
