Dantonie Blount hampered his 6-month-old son

A Fargo man is being held on $50,000 cash or bond bail after telling police he “slammed” a wicker hamper onto his 6-month-old son’s head and bit the boy.

Dantonie Durrell Blount, 23, initially told police he fell on the boy, but then said he struck the child when he would not stop crying. He is charged in Cass County District Court with felony child abuse.

    Court documents state:

Police were called to Fargo’s Innovis Health early Saturday morning after the boy was brought in with bruises on his forehead and chest and a bite mark on his forearm. Doctors also discovered healing rib fractures on both sides.

The child’s mother said she discovered the bruises Friday night and Blount told her he had slipped on a hardwood floor and fell on the baby. Blount told police he thought his head hit the child’s head. When asked if he suffered any injuries from the fall, Blount stated no, saying he is in the military. WTF kind of answer is that?? What does being in the military have to do with not getting injured?

A nurse discovered the bite mark while undressing the child. The boy’s mother told police her husband said he was playing with the child and got too rough.

Blount told police he became upset when the baby would not stop crying and he picked up a wicker hamper with clothes in it and “slammed it” onto the baby’s head while he was on his back in the crib.

Blount said he felt bad afterwards and picked his son up and held him.

He also told police he probably or possibly could have caused the injuries to his son’s ribs by picking him up roughly or squeezing too hard.

Authorities searching Blount’s apartment found a small stain on the hamper that appeared to be blood.

What is up with baby biting? My mouth forms a natural kissy-pucker when placed close to even the ugliest child.

Right, 'cause everytime I play with kids I end up giving them bite marks. Why do these people even bother trying to come up with an excuse? It just makes them look even more stupid and I didn't think that was possible!
In view of the fact that God limited the intelligence of man, it seems unfair that he did not also limit his stupidity.

I would have bitched slapped him and bit the fucker. You do NOT bite a baby, ever!

I don't get it either. This biting babies things is so vicious. Who the hell thinks of shit like this. Never once, when upset with my children do I think, yeah, he deserves a good bite...sick animals.

I'm so glad that baby is not seriously injured. He can yet grow up and return the loving gesture in kind one day.

Be happy and safe sweet one...that is my hope.

I'm sure that makes it alright then.

Walk away walk away walk away - couldn't that be just slammed in people's head while expecting the little crying thingy to arrive? Like using hypnosis or something? I'm frustrated reading about beating babies out of frustration - because they CRY.

I remember my daughter coming home with a bite mark on her when she was 3, from another 3 year old! Just goes to show how fucking stupid he is to act like he's a damn toddler.

A Fargo man was sentenced to a five-year prison term on Monday for child neglect after hitting his 6-month old son in the head with a laundry hamper.

Dantonie Blount pleaded guilty in July to the felony charge of child neglect. He said in Cass County District Court he deeply regrets the April incident. He told police he struck his child after he got upset because the boy kept crying.

“I’ve messed up everything,” Blount said Monday in court. “I just wish I could take everything back.”

Judge Steven Marquart split the difference between a three-year term sought by the defense and the seven years wanted by the state.

Blount’s attorney, Steve Mottinger, said his client is a veteran and his actions might be connected to the psychological effects of serving in Iraq. or they might be connected to the fact he is a plain old assclown.

Mottinger also argued for the shorter sentence by saying Blount was likely to be treated poorly in prison.

“This is the kind of crime that puts him on the lower end of the totem pole,” he said.

Mark Boening, assistant state’s attorney, said that Blount deserved the longer term because the infant was helpless.

Mottinger said Blount’s family wanted him to ask for just probation, a prospect the attorney admitted was unrealistic.

The boy also had broken ribs in various stages of healing and bite marks on his arm. Mottinger said the child has apparently made a full recovery.
