Porn star Marilyn Chambers found dead

Marilyn Chambers, a former Ivory Snow detergent model who became a porn star, died Sunday at her Canyon Country home, the Los Angeles Times reports. She was 56.

Chambers, whose real name was Marilyn Ann Taylor, was found unresponsive at 8:51 p.m. at her residence in the 16000 block of Vasquez Canyon, said Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter. The cause of death is under investigation but foul play was not suspected and an autopsy is pending.

Chambers became a pop culture phenomenon when she gave up work as a model advertising Ivory Snow laundry detergent to star in the X-rated "Behind the Green Door" in 1972.

The movie also sparked a buying frenzy on boxes of Ivory Snow soap, then graced by Chambers' angelically complexioned face.

Ok, that's a little creepy.

In any case, RIP Marilyn. I don't want to sound like a dick here (no pun intended), but while your untimely passing will be mourned by your friends and family, it is really no great loss to the rest of the human race.

El Spuremo, I know a lot of men and women who would disagree with you.
Oprah mentioned many moons ago (20yrs) about watching Behind the Green Door and like all good Stay at Home Mom's, I had my ex rent it ...cause, well, we all listened to Oprah at least once in our life time. The one time the men were grateful for O and the other O.

So, Marilyn's greatest masterpiece and humanitarian achievement will live on for eternity.

I agree with Madmama. I am a little sad that she is gone and I can't even say why. I never saw any of her movies, but she was certainly an icon during my college years.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An autopsy has revealed that adult film star Marilyn Chambers died of the effects of a cerebral hemorrhage and aneurysm related to heart disease.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office released the results of toxicology tests Monday.

The tests also indicated the presence of two prescription drugs in Chambers' system, but not in excess amounts.

An autopsy was performed on Chambers April 14, two days after she was found dead at her home in the Los Angeles suburb of Canyon Country. She was 56.

Chambers helped bring hard-core adult films into the mainstream when she starred in 1972's "Behind the Green Door."

Her appearance in the film cost the then-aspiring model and actress her job as Procter & Gamble's Ivory Snow girl.
