A confession without a murder?

Police in Cincinnati and Kentucky, as well as agents with the FBI, are investigating after a man called in to a Phoenix radio show and confessed to witnessing a Tri-State murder.

The call was made to KZZP, which hosts a confession segment. The murder allegedly happened in 1988.

The caller said, "They jumped him, tied him up. Everybody was throwing eggs and stuff at him and burning him with cigarettes, just giving this guy back what he's been giving us for all those years. And we were all just kinda standing there back with my friends watching all this stuff going on and laughing. And then at the end of it they, he was all tied up, they pushed him off the pier, into the water."

Cincinnati Police are aware of call and looking through old cases. The murder could also be a Northern Kentucky case. The FBI also has recording of show.

Red face Police: Radio 'confession' may be a hoax

Phoenix police have questioned the man who called in to a local radio station and confessed to witnessing a homicide, calling into question the validity of his on-air statements Friday morning.
The man, who referred to himself as “Carl,” called into KISS-FM's "Confession Wednesday" segment and claimed to have witnessed a 20-year-old homicide that occurred in the Cincinnati area.
Despite gruesome detail in the descriptions, police say their questioning has led them to believe the tale was fabricated from an urban legend. They were continuing to investigate the possibility of any validity, working with police in Kentucky and Ohio to separate fact from hoax.

Man Claimed To Have Witnessed Murder Near Cincinnati In 1988

Caller: Murder Confession On Radio Was Hoax

PHOENIX -- A man who claimed to have witnessed an unsolved murder in the Tri-State said he made the story up.

The caller, who identified himself as "Carl," called KISS-FM in Phoenix Wednesday night during the station's confession contest.

Carl said he watched people kill a well-known bully in 1988 and then dump his body in the Ohio River from the Kentucky side near Cincinnati.

But Carl later called a TV station in Phoenix to say his story was a hoax, made up in an attempt to win a contest.

"Never in a million years did I think that anyone would think that was even feasibly possible," he told a reporter in a phone interview.

3TV said Carl told them he felt mortified and embarrassed by all of the attention the story had received.
