8-year-old, Victoria Stafford, missing in Canada *deceased*

    Victoria "Tori" Stafford

Ontario - LONDON -- A search is under way for a missing eight-year-old Woodstock girl who never returned home from school Wednesday.

Victoria "Tori" Stafford was last seen around 3:40 p.m. leaving Oliver Stephens school on Fyfe Avenue — where she's a Grade 3 pupil — headed for her Francis Street home a few blocks away.

"Of course, our big concern is her age and we're encouraging the public to keep an eye open for her," said Const. Laurie-Anne Maitland.

Police officers and a canine unit have been searching the area around the school and in town throughout the night.

A meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. to discuss further search efforts after offers came from the public, including companies, to join the search effort.

"Although it hasn't been ruled out, we have no reasons to suspect foul play at this time," said Maitland, adding she was unaware of any conflicts at the girl's school or home that might have prompted her to run away.

Tori is described as four feet five inches tall, 62 pounds with blonde hair cut just below her ears and blue eyes. She was wearing a green shirt, black velvet skirt and black-and-white shoes, a black hair band and a black Hannah Montana jacket with white fur trim and possibly carrying a pink-and-purple Bratz backpack.

How do you not have a reason to suspect foul play when she is only 8 years old?

    This is not looking good.

“We have obtained video surveillance footage of a young person matching the description and clothing descriptors provided for Victoria Stafford walking with an unidentified person,” Const. Laurie-Anne Maitland of the Oxford Community Police said Thursday. She said the two were seen walking in the area of Fyfe Ave. and Walter St. in Woodstock around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Maitland said, “police would like to identify and speak with the as yet unidentified person walking with her.” The unidentified person is described as wearing a white coat and dark pants.

It doesnt look good. Its sad but anymore my mind just goes to "hope they find her body fast" b/c all these cases they dont get them back alive.I cant remember 1X where they found child alive and well except Elizabeth Smart,Shasta Groene but look at the hell that baby went through(sorry but 8 to me is still a baby in my eye) before she was found including watching her brother raped and murdered. My heart goes out to all these parents that have had to go through this.I pray they find her safe but my hearts not holding out on that.I hope they find her soon so at least family knows and can grieve. And I hope Im wrong and they DO find her safe, please let me be wrong about her,Shawn Hornbeck came home also after 5 yrs of hell

Now they are saying Victoria was with an unidentified female.

Police say they are looking for a white woman, aged 19-25, about 120-125 pounds, with a black ponytail and who was wearing black jeans and a white puffy jacket.

You know I got more info from you posting this then I have seen here and I live by it!!This is the only thing thats been put out here,Victoria (Tori) Stafford was reported missing after she did not return home from Woodstock's Oliver Stephens Public School on Wednesday afternoon.

Police later obtained surveillance video from a nearby high school that captured footage of a girl matching Tori's appearance walking with an adult woman on Wednesday afternoon.

Oxford Community police Const. Laurie-Ann Maitland told CTV Newsnet that Tori has now been positively identified as the girl in the video.

"It is, in fact, her," Maitland said in a phone interview on Friday morning.

Tori is seen walking with the woman in the direction of her home around 3:32 p.m. on Wednesday, Maitland said. There is no sign of force or resistance in the video.

Police now want to know who she was walking with.

"The lady we're looking to speak with, who is a person of interest, is a white female, 19 to 25 years old, approximately 5'1" or 5'2" and between 120 and 125 pounds," said Maitland.

"She has straight, long black hair, past the shoulders that is worn in a ponytail, and she was wearing tight black jeans and a white puffy winter jacket."

Maitland said police have put together a timeline of the last day Tori was seen.

The girl's teachers said Tori attended school without any problems the day she disappeared.

"We don't have any information after that, but she never did make it home," Maitland added.

Around 6 p.m. that night, Tori's parents reported her missing and police immediately began to investigate.

Police started a door-to-door search late Wednesday. They began a ground search at first light Thursday with about 40 officers and canine units.

Tori is about 4'5", 62 pounds and has blue eyes and short blonde hair.

She was last seen warning a denim skirt, a green shirt and a black Hannah Montana jacket with a fur-lined hood.

Flyers of Tori have been plastered all over Woodstock, a city of about 30,000, 125 kilometres southwest of Toronto.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oxford Community Police at 519-421-2800. It would be nice if they found her safe and sound like they did Serena Sanchez,

WOODSTOCK, Ont. - As police fell silent Thursday and refused for the first time to provide information on potential developments in the case of a missing child that's gripped this tight-knit southwestern Ontario city, family members expressed anxiety the night before the police chief was to update the community.

It will be the first time a senior Oxford Community Police official speaks out publicly on eight-year-old Victoria Stafford's mysterious disappearance.

"I think that if it was something of significance, we would have heard something about it or more about it than we have," said Rebecca Stafford, the girl's aunt.

"I'm hoping it's something that says we've got more information and we're outside of a house right now. That would be phenomenal. But in all likelihood..."

Rodney Stafford, Victoria's father, said the anticipation is making him feel "wheezy."

"Curiosity is really getting to me, too. I wanna know what it's all about," he said, adding he was hoping to meet privately with police Thursday night to get his own update of the case. "As to what it's about, I have no idea."

Victoria, who friends and family call Tori, hasn't been seen since April 8.

A police spokeswoman who has spoken daily and at length with the media about the case - even in the absence of developments - said Thursday there would be no further comment until Chief Ron Fraser speaks Friday at 10 a.m.

So far, police have been investigating the disappearance as a missing persons case and have not called it an abduction.

Yet the only tangible lead police have talked about is a surveillance video that shows Tori, walking seemingly willingly, with a woman with long brown hair and a puffy white coat.

While hundreds of tips have poured in and police conducted a thorough ground search, as well as continue to knock on doors, there's been no word of a tangible lead.

On Thursday night several hundred people, including many parents with their own small children, turned out at a popular Woodstock park to show the family support and attempt to use their own efforts to locate the bubbly blond girl.

Dozens of purple balloons - Tori's favourite colour - were filled with helium and had a scroll bearing her name and identification details inserted inside. People gathering at the park also wrote personal messages on the inflated balloons, including her mother, Tara McDonald, who scrawled a message that read, in part: "To my beautiful princess chubchubs, please come home and safely, mommy misses you..."

The bright balloons were then released into the air on the count of three.

"It makes me realize the community is still here, and that's good to know. I don't want anybody here in the community to give up the search for my daughter," Rodney Stafford said.

"It hurts that she's still out there. I honestly believe this community will stick with me until I get her home."

Despite the dawning of a second week with no sign of Tori, other parents remained hopeful that police know more than they're letting on about her whereabouts and would soon deliver some good news.

"We're hoping for the best, especially for the children," Monica McCoy said as she waited outside Oliver Stephens Public School for her daughter Brooke.

The girl and Victoria, known by family and friends as Tori, were classmates and "best friends" who had a play date planned after school on April 8. That's the day the bubbly, petite, blond child "never showed up."

Since her friend's disappearance, Brooke has been making gifts and drawing crayon pictures of her and Tori in their houses, said her mom.

"(Brooke has been) up and down. She misses her friend, very very much," McCoy said. "She said 'We're like sisters.' They call each other sissy."

Across the street from Tori's school, Jenny Warnock watched as her 10-and seven-year-old sons played on scooters in their front yard.

"I hope it's good news," she said of Friday's update, adding it's been discouraging waking up every morning without hearing police have a lead in the case.

"Just a clue. I don't know what I'm hoping for really, I just hope she's safe."

Despite the lack of information, she said she's happy with how police have handled the investigation.

"I think everything they've done is for our best interest," she said.

"If they know something and they're not telling us, that's OK with me. As long as I have some type of hope it will be good news in the end."

    Landfill Search

SALFORD — An OPP search team combed through piles of garbage at the Oxford County Landfill Monday as the investigation into the abduction of Victoria “Tori” Stafford entered its 13th day.

The team of roughly 20 Emergency Response Team officers sifted through garbage that had been collected from Woodstock since the night of Tori’s disappearance, looking for any evidence that could be connected to the abduction of the missing eight-year-old. Because of the rainy weather, OPP officers suspended their search in the early afternoon but should return to the landfill early this morning.

“There has been no information to suggest there is evidence in regard to this case at this location but, as part of due diligence, sections are being searched,” Oxford Community Police Service spokesperson Laurie-Anne Maitland indicated in a media release.

Police investigators contacted county officials Sunday about their plans to search the Salford-area dump. Clad in Tyvek protective suits, the officers began looking through the mounds of garbage at approximately 7:30 a.m., landfill supervisor Dave Vanmeeren said.

“It’s not the first time (a search) has happened here, but this is the most intensive that we’ve seen,” he said.

Despite the renewed intensity of the search, investigators had no new public information about Tori’s abduction. Even with the OPP assuming management of this joint investigation, the search for Tori does remain largely focused on the Woodstock area. On Monday, OCPS officers continued to canvass city neighbourhoods as part of the ongoing search. The OPP’s underwater search and recovery unit also continued to search the city’s waterways, focusing much of Monday’s efforts to Pittock Reservoir.

Tara McDonald, Tori’s mother, said investigators were “doing the best they can” to find her missing daughter.

“They’re looking everywhere they possibly can,” she said.

Tori was last seen on April 8 walking with an unidentified woman north along Fyfe Avenue shortly after leaving Oliver Stephens Public School at approximately 3:30 p.m. Video footage obtained from a high school security camera indicates the unidentified woman, who was wearing a white coat and tight black pants, is between 19 and 25 years old. The mystery woman, who investigators consider a crucial “person of interest,” is estimated to be roughly five foot two inches tall (157 centimetres) and 125 pounds (56 kilograms).

At the time of her abduction, Tori was wearing a green shirt, a denim skirt, black and white shoes, and a black Hannah Montana jacket with a white fur-lined hood. She may have been carrying a purple and pink Bratz shoulder bag. Tori is four foot five inches (134 centimetres) tall and weighs 62 pounds (28 kilograms). She has blue eyes and blonde hair cut just below her ears

Mom says targeted for being beautiful

WOODSTOCK, Ont. -- For the second day in a row, an Ontario mother pleaded Tuesday with those she presumes to be her daughter's captors to return eight-year-old Victoria Stafford, a Woodstock girl who has been missing for 13 days.

Tara McDonald said her daughter, Tori, as she liked to be called, was shown on a on a blurry surveillance video walking unusually quickly -- for her -- with an unidentified woman in a white jacket as the two left the girl's elementary school nearly two weeks ago.

"She dawdles," Ms. McDonald told reporters outside her Woodstock home, "She was walking quickly as if someone was saying to her ‘let's go, hurry up.' "

Although police have no clue as to the whereabouts of the little girl, Ms. McDonald said she is strong in her resolve that Tori would be found alive.

"When we get her back she is going to be traumatized. ... We are not going to stop until we get our kid back."

Ms. McDonald continues to believe Tori was taken because of her attractive physical appearance and repeated a plea she made Monday for the captors to "just drop her off somewhere."

"I think it was just a crazy person who took my baby," she said. "She is an exceptionally beautiful child and that's why she was targeted."

Oxford County police said Tuesday they are continuing their search for Tori, but there are no new leads.

"Yes, it's continuing," Const. Laurie-Anne Maitland said. An underwater team is searching Pittock Lake, she said, and another is combing through the Oxford County landfill site. Other officers were still canvassing door-to-door.

Tori has been missing since April 8 when she failed to return home after school.

A dive team searched rivers, streams, and lakes in Woodstock on the weekend. They scoured, for the second time, the shallow waters of a pond in Southside Park on Saturday and Pittock Lake located in the outskirts north of the city on Sunday.

    The searches came up empty.

Police are also continuing to follow up on tips. Const. Maitland said investigators have received more than 1,000 leads in the case. But she said investigators continue to urge the public to come forward with any information.

Woodstock is about 150 kilometres southwest of Toronto.

For the first time, investigators searching for clues into the abduction of eight-year-old Victoria "Tori" Stafford widened their hunt to outside this city -- combing through the county landfill through a grim rainfall yesterday.

The heavy rain forced about 20 members of the OPP emergency response unit to halt their search in the afternoon, but they're expected back at the Oxford County landfill today.

Police remained tight-lipped about what they were looking for, but a spokesman suggested they weren't looking for a body.

"We didn't have cadaver dogs there," said Oxford police Const. Laurie-Anne Maitland. "We are going through ... Woodstock's garbage."

But a retired police investigator specializing in abductions said police would be looking for anything and everything in the landfill.

"I think they are looking for any evidence of her, up to and including her body," said Dave Perry, head of Investigative Solutions Network and a 27-year-veteran of the Toronto police who acted as lead investigator on several child abduction cases.

The OPP's underwater search and recovery unit also widened its hunt yesterday, moving from the south end of Pittock Lake to the north end at the edge of the city.

Neither search has found any sign of Tori, Maitland said.

News of a search at the landfill outside the city did nothing to dishearten Tara McDonald, into day 13 of the search for her missing daughter.

"It is not comforting but they are looking everywhere they possibly can," she said outside her home.

She put on a hopeful face for reporters, fighting tears as she imagined how her daughter would handle the abductors.

"I guarantee she has been a hellion," McDonald said, smiling through sniffles.

McDonald's family has set up two bank accounts for donations, one to help pay for counselling and a trust fund for the children, and the other for living expenses.

Tori's brother, Daryn Stafford, needs counselling, McDonald said.

"He had a very, very bad night last night," she said, her voice strained.

"He came downstairs crying and I held him in my arms like a baby. He cried because he could see his sister's room and he knew she wasn't in it."

I had to quit reading a book Ive been reading.Last night it got to the murders of Christine Jessop and Allison Parrott who were both missing and murdered in Toronto which is right near where Victoria is missng from. Its written by 2 American FBI profilers that happened to be here during the search for Christine Jessop and they gave Canadian police exactly right down to the position of the body all the info they needed to catch the killers in these cases.I wish they were here again and could offer insight. So being that I can sit behind comp and be anonymous kinda I emailed.Something totally out of character for me but I emailed and left email addy back and hoping maybe 1 of them will at least take a minute to answer it back .I know its nuts but theres just way to many missing kids lately and I know its not any diff from before but Im just hopeful

Why do they need to take a collection for living expenses? Do the parents work? If so you'd think they're employers would give them paid time off during this time. And if they are working, you'd have to assume they have insurance of some sort that would cover counselling for the entire family. Sorry, but it really bugs me when a child goes missing there is almost always an account set up for donations. As if it's a money making opportunity.

I agree.I actually cant remember any other families asking for money.I know after a body is found many places set up accounts to help pay funeral costs but not fucking living expenses.I just dont like this whole case since day 1

WOODSTOCK, Ont. - The mother of Victoria Stafford says any suggestion that a composite sketch of her daughter's abductor looks like her makes her laugh.

Tara McDonald says people who are making that suggestion on the social networking site Facebook should be ashamed.

At a news conference, McDonald says the sketch looks nothing like her and adds she knows she had nothing to do with her daughter's disappearance.

She says the composite sketch reminds her ex-husband of a high school classmate, but McDonald adds she doesn't recognize the face and that she and Rodney Stafford went to different schools.

Victoria, known as Tori to her family and friends, went missing April 8 after leaving school.

In addition to the sketch, police have released a grainy video of the Grade 3 student walking with a woman outside her school the day she went missing.

McDonald says that while the media was camped out on her front lawn waiting for her daily update, a limousine driver walked through her yard and knocked on her back door. When she answered he said he had a wealthy boss who wanted to meet her.

So Tara, her boyfriend, brother, and best friend, got into the limo.

"I felt calm with him. I didn't feel nervous," she explained.

She then claims the limo took them to the Sheraton hotel near Pearson airport. She then says she went alone to a suite on a top floor and met a person who insisted they must remain anonymous.

The person said their own child was abducted and killed, and that they wanted to help.

"They just landed in Toronto, turned on the news and saw the story and wanted to do something," she adds.

That something is apparently money --- any sum Victoria's kidnapper's want.

Even though there has been no ransom demand, McDonald now hopes this offer of money will bring her little girl back home.

In the meantime, police are looking into the offer.

This to me is a ploy to make it look like they are sure shes alive.By saying this they are attempting to make themselves look better in the publics eye(like ,look this guy believes us b/c hes been through it so he wants to help so quit digging my boyfriends past criminal record out!!).They are attempting to make it look like a everyday thing b/c someone else has been through it and lost a child and wants to help them. They are exploiting child abductions to their advantage with the blood of THE REAL abducted kids that havent made it home.Im sorry I see crack pipes all over these people.I believe Victorias dad isnt in on it & hes being played just as the public is.B/C if this had happened(someone offering unlimited money) that would have a huge ground breaking effect. And as you can read and see they didnt pick Victorias dad up to go!!Didnt call him and let him know what was going on.Im pretty positive hes been at each days update .Except that day??.B/C hes got no clue about the truth.I personally believe Victoria either A) Made it home and something happened whether it was accident or the penis.Have they checked to see if the mom had a puffy white coat??Since video so blurry cant see face.Im wondering if that video is dated and if not could that be mom walking her home a diff day.I know sounds crazy but Im grasping and B)I wonder if they owe drug money (as I have said from beginning) and this announcement was made b/c they have now scraped together the money they owe them and this is a signal to them they have all their money now. I know I over think sometimes but somethings not right here.I bet that story is to get to the people holding her that they have their money and to make contact with them. And sad thing is after all this time I believe shes gone b/c whos going to risk keeping kid that age so long and turn her over when moneys paid. She would know the people and talk and they would be caught and put away for life. And C))Thats why shes walking with the woman so freely b/c she knows her from her moms crowd OR D)K this is longshot,,is that 100% a woman in the video, very blurry cant make out face, could that be a guy dressed up lol its happened before. Its just how her moms so convinced Victoria knows her(supposed woman in video) b/c she wouldnt go with her if not.Just like casey anthony "she can feel Victorias alive b/c a mother knows these things?Theres just something weird going on.Why didnt this person come forward and offer money for CAYLEE???Or Cedricka in Montreal,or any of the other missing kids in Ontario??

Many Thanks for all the updates about Victoria. I come here everyday thinking today is the day I'm going to read how she was found safe. I hate saying it but this latest story about the Sheraton Hotel is very discouraging. It's just too weird for words. I actually felt my heart sink as I read it.

Whisperwing....I'm with you, something is very wrong with all of this but what????

Isnt it the rule of the first 24 hours are critcal in getting back alive and the odds go down from there. So they wait 576 hours to release pics a month old??Didnt issue amber alert, every missing child should have amber alert.I dont mean when they are late coming back with friends or anything but when e1s been called, parks, playgrounds checked and its a young child after so many hours amber alert needs to be called before the person that takes them doesnt get to far with them.Samantha Runnion few yrs back they did it right away and got great tips but was still to late for her.But maybe the next child it wont be to late

Police seize Tori Stafford mom's computer

By RANDY RICHMOND, LONDON FREE PRESS

    The London Free Press

WOODSTOCK -- Police seized and are holding the computer of the mother of missing eight-year-old Victoria (Tori) Stafford, she confirmed yesterday, but her ex-husband's family seems to have kept theirs.

But neither the seizure nor police surveillance of her house bothers her, said Tara McDonald, who focused not on the stories swirling around her, but on getting Tori home.

"My computer was seized . . . My mom's computer has been seized, any computer the kids have had access to has been seized."

Police told her they took the computers to see if anyone had sent strange messages to Tori or her brother Daryn, 10, either through e-mail or children's websites such as Webkinz and Build-a-Bear, she said.

"That's what they were looking into -- anything that didn't make sense," she said.

Asked if any of his family members had their computers taken, Tori's father and McDonald's ex-husband, Rodney Stafford, said, "No, not that I know of."

As the pair spoke, an officer with Oxford Community police videotaped their comments, as he has for weeks.

McDonald said the daily police presence, including the stream of police cars that drive through her neighbourhood and park on the street, doesn't bother her.

"I don't really think about it. I just come and go in my regular routine and I don't pay attention."

Tori was last seen April 8 leaving Oliver Stephens elementary school on Fyfe Ave., where she's in Grade 3. She was seen on videotape, shot from a surveillance camera at a nearby high school, walking north up Fyfe with an unknown woman.

Her parents expressed surprise yesterday at how their little girl, known for being "pokey," made it off the school grounds so fast with a stranger no one noticed.

The videotape from the high school shows Tori and the unidentified woman walking north on Fyfe at 3:32 p.m., about two minutes after the girl left school.

"That seems very strange," McDonald said. When they lived two doors from the school, her daughter didn't get home until about 3:45 p.m. she said. "She's pokey. She takes her time putting her coat on. She talks to all her friends. I found it very, very odd that at 3:32 she was fully dressed, had her bag and was up the hill."

Stafford said he can't believe parents, bus drivers, classmates and others watched Tori leave with a perfect stranger without noticing something amiss.

"Somebody has had to see something. Now, I'd just like somebody to start talking and we can bring out daughter home."

For the first time since she began holding daily news conferences, McDonald missed one Tuesday.

Yesterday, she gave short answers weighed with exhaustion.

"Up until 10 minutes ago, I wasn't planning on coming out here today. I'm drained," she said.

With Mother's Day looming, McDonald said she's becoming frustrated. This will be the first Mother's Day spent without both her children, she said. "I would really hope to have my child home for Mother's Day," she said.

I either saw or read the mother going on about how drained she is and all. I wonder how drained little Tori is, you know, with being kidnapped and all.

I hadn't heard about the nursing home visit until just now. I wonder what else is on there?

Whisperwing....still have my fingers crossed for you and your road trip.
