Alvin Birotta Jr. tries to kill his son

An Opelousas man is currently being held in the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department Jail after allegedly trying to kill his son.

Alvin Joseph Birotta Jr., 50, 147 Emile St., Opelousas, has been charged with attempted manslaughter in connection with the incident that happened at Birotta house after midnight Sunday.

According to Jimmy Darbonne with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Department Office, Birotta's son had gone to his father's house and a fight broke out during which Birotta allegedly stabbed his son in the neck.

The son was taken to Opelousas General Health System were he was treated and later released.
