ORLAND PARK, Ill. (AP) - A 26-year-old suburban Chicago woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of her 2-year-old niece.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office says Nours Hadid will appear in bond court Tuesday in Bridgeview. It was not immediately clear whether she has an attorney.

Authorities say Nours Hadid found her niece, Bhia Hadid, unresponsive at their Orland Park home Sunday evening. The girl was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled Monday that the girl died of multiple trauma due to child abuse. Her death was ruled a homicide.

A spokesman for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services says three other children living at the home have been placed into protective custody.

An Orland Park woman was charged Monday with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old niece, who was found severely beaten Sunday night in the family home, authorities said.

Nours Hadid, 26, 9016 W. 140th St., is expected to appear for a court hearing this morning at the Cook County courthouse in Bridgeview, according to a spokeswoman for the state's attorney's office.

Police and paramedics responded about 5:45 p.m. to the family's apartment, where Hadid said she found the toddler, Bhia Hadid, unresponsive, authorities said. The child was taken to Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights, where she was pronounced dead at 6:27 p.m., according to the county medical examiner's office.

An autopsy revealed that the girl died of multiple blunt trauma, according to the office.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services removed three other children from the apartment. Police Cmdr. Charles Doll declined to give the children's ages but said all three are minors. He declined to say whether police had previous contact with the family.

DCFS spokesman Jimmie Whitelow said the agency had no prior contact with them.

Neighbors reacted in shock and disbelief upon hearing Monday of the child's death.

"Oh God! Oh God!," said one neighbor who asked that her name not be used. "I'm shocked."

"They are a nice family," she said. "They are quiet and mostly keep to themselves. The mother hardly spoke English, but she did say 'hello' and 'goodbye.' "

Neighbors said the family moved in about a year ago. They said the couple has a boy about a year old.

The one neighbor said she and her husband came home about 10 p.m. Sunday to see three squad cars parked around the apartment.

"I was pretty scared," she said. "I mean, this is a really quiet area."

She said she never saw or heard anything out of the ordinary.

"I'd hear the television and the music playing," she said. "But it wasn't turned up loud or anything."

Earlier this week, Nour Hadid, 25, was charged with one count of first-degree murder for the death of her two-year-old niece, Bhia. Her police booking photo was released Tuesday to the media.

"To be show in the newspaper, splashed on the news is really a violation of her rights."

However, Hadid's husband, Alaeddin, says that exposing his wife's face to the public is an "insult against our religion."

Orland Park detectives say they treated Hadid as they would any other suspect. The photograph depicts Hadid without her hijab (headscarf) and in a revealing top. She appears to be emotional and trying to cover her chest and shoulders with her hands.

Alaeddin and Nour Hadid are practicing Muslims. According to custom, Alaeddin says his wife "never leaves the home without covering up."

"It is against our religion," Alaeddin said, reports the Southtown Star. "We do not do this in our culture."

Incredible that he could make such an issue out of this when this vile woman has mercilessly beaten a child for four days until she died. And I'm not getting how beating a child in any way relates to being accused of stealing money -- especially since the child was neither the accuser nor the thief.

But I guess the REAL issue here is that her rights have been violated by her mug shot because of her religious beliefs. The fact that a baby was beaten to death is inconsequential.

My completely unfounded guess? Beating the little girl who could in NO WAY defend or even speak up for herself, made Noor feel better in that moment and allowed her to vent her rage over whatever petty shit she was dealing with. That's probably all it comes down to.

An Orland Park woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the beating death of her 2-year-old niece in April 2009 at the woman's home.

Nour Hadid, 27, of 9016 W. 140th St., pleaded guilty Friday to felony aggravated battery of a child.

"This (plea) agreement was reached with support and involvement of family members," said Sally Daly, a spokeswoman for the Cook County state's attorney's office.
