Humane society probes cruelty posting
HOLLAND - The Toledo Area Humane Society is investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty.
The video, posted on the viral site YouTube.com for about a month, has been removed by the user. The poster claims to be from Monclova in Lucas County; however investigators have not determined if the act happened in the area or if the poster is the person who filmed the video.
The video shows a Doberman Pinscher being coached by the amateur photographer to maim a cat. The person filming the violence speaks Spanish for most of the video and the pictures appear to have been taken in some sort of orchard or farm.
The nearly 4 minute and 30-second video records the canine chasing down, biting, and eventually killing the cat.
The Toledo Area Humane Society has received many phone calls and more than 200 e-mails from across the country and around the world. Many flooded FOX Toledo's e-mail in-box over the weekend asking for help in finding the person who orchestrated the attack.
Investigators believe it could take a week to figure out exactly who posted the video and where it was filmed.
"What disturbs me beyond someone doing this and videotaping it is what they are going to do next," Bailey said. "So not only do we have to find this person to protect the animals that are in his reach, but we have to find this person so police investigating him to make sure he doesn't hurt anyone else."
The humane society plans on prosecuting the person or persons who coached the canine into committing the act if they live in Lucas County. The suspect or suspects could be
fined up to $750 and could spend up to 90 days in jail.
