Louie Rivera
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/cr...0,486348.storyA 7-year-old boy beaten in Brentwood, allegedly at the hands of his mother's live-in boyfriend, is clinging to life with the help of a respirator, Suffolk County police said yesterday.
The boy's injuries are so severe that the criminal inquiry is being investigated by the Suffolk police homicide squad.
The boyfriend, Louie Rivera, 32, who has admitted causing the injuries, has been charged with assault and is jailed on $1 million cash or $2 million bond, authorities say.
Authorities say Rivera was baby-sitting the boy at the home Friday about 5:40 p.m. when the beating occurred.
Police responding to a 911 call found the child "in obvious distress," police said in a release. Officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The boy was first brought to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with "substantial internal injuries," then admitted to Stony Brook University Medical Center.
"The boy underwent emergency surgery for his internal injuries and is on a respirator," police said.
