TAMPA, FL -- Tampa police have charged an Iraqi born Tampa man with torturing a female family member after she caught him with pornography.

According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's arrest log, Moslim Al-Assadi has been arrested for aggravated child abuse (torture) for domestic violence. He is being held without bond.

A Tampa Police report says, "(o)fficers responded out to a local elementary school to investigate a child abuse. The female victim reported that a relative bound her hands as a punishment for finding his pornographical movies. Then he placed her in a partially filled bath tub causing distress in her breathing. This was witnessed by other siblings."

Police did not say if the girl was seriously hurt, nor did they reveal her age.

I wonder what his relationship is to the child since she's only described as "a relative" and how the other siblings witnessed the event without the parents finding out about it? Were all the kids afraid to speak? Or did the parents find out and just keep quiet?

I'm sure that the relationship is known by the police, but withheld to protect the child's identity. I'm guessing a neice or (much) younger sister, though.

Sounds to me like all the kids were brother and sister. A 7,8 amd 10 year old.

TAMPA - A Tampa man charged with torturing a 10-year-old female relative because she discovered his pornographic movie collection remains jailed this morning. No bail has been set.

Authorities learned of the incident through an anonymous tip, and police went to the girl's elementary school to interview her Thursday. The school was not named by authorities.

Arrested late Thursday afternoon was Moslim Al Assadi, 36, who lives in the 1900 block of Patterson Street. He remained in the Orient Road Jail this morning, charged with aggravated child abuse, a first-degree misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident that the girl said occurred in June or July.

In an arrest affidavit, Tampa police said the girl told them that Al Assadi got mad because she found his collection of adult movies. He tied her hands behind her back and forced her into a partially filled bathtub, where he dunked her head under the water several times, "causing her to struggle for breath," the affidavit said.

The girl's siblings witnessed the incident, police said, and recounted the same story to police Thursday.

Tampa police detectives along with child protection investigators went to the home Thursday and removed the victim and two other children, ages 7 and 8.

A neighbor said Al Assadi moved into the rental property three years ago and had been homeless prior to that.

TAMPA — A man previously accused of torturing his daughter faced new charges Wednesday after his son told investigators that his father punished him by shoving his head into a bucket of water and burning his hand with a hot frying pan.

Moslim Al-Assadi, 35, of 8901 N Boulevard was first arrested April 2 after detectives came to Oak Grove Elementary School to talk to his 10-year-old daughter.

The girl told Tampa police that in July 2008, Al-Assadi dunked her head into a tub of water until she could not breathe to punish her for finding his pornography. Police took the children from the Iraq native and single father, charging him with one count of aggravated child abuse.

As the investigation continued, Al-Assadi's son told detectives that his father made him go outside and fill a bucket with water, then tied his hands behind his back, turned him upside down and dipped his head into the bucket of water as a punishment. According to an arrest report, the grade school-age boy also said that his father once burned the bottom of his hand with a hot frying pan after he improperly prepared a meal.

Authorities have responded to six calls about alleged mistreatment since the family moved to Tampa in 2006. The children's mother, Arlene Heintzelman, 34, stayed in Pennsylvania when Al-Assadi moved, according to Hills*borough court documents. In 2003, two of the couple's three children fell from a two-story window while under her watch, according to Northumberland County court documents.

Police rearrested Al-Assadi on Wednesday and charged him with two more counts of aggravated child abuse. He was being held at the Orient Road Jail without bail.

A father accused of water torturing his daughter as punishment for finding his pornography was sentenced Thursday to five years' probation.

Al-Assadi's parental rights have been terminated, as have the rights of the children's mother, for an unrelated case. In 2003, two of the couple's three children fell from a two-story window while under her watch, according to court documents. Since the father and children moved to Tampa in 2006, authorities responded to half a dozen calls about alleged mistreatment.

Assistant State Attorney Kimberly Hindman said prosecutors found inconsistency in the children's statements. Defense witnesses would have testified they never saw abuse or injuries.

"The state does think the child abuse occurred," she said.

At the request of the prosecution, Circuit Judge Chet A. Tharpe ruled that during probation, Al-Assadi can have no contact with children.

This seems sort of backward to me. I initially came in thinking that the man had tortured the young relative for finding the young relative's stash, which seems more in line with behavior. However, this case is strange.
