Child abuse victim almost buried alive

LA PAZ, Bolivia -- A prosecutor says a 3-year-old girl escaped being buried alive after a neighbor noticed her body move at her funeral.

Prosecutor Jaime Soliz says the girl's body shows evidence of abuse and burns, allegedly caused by her mother and stepfather.

He told a news conference on Wednesday that "the parents left her for dead, neither offered her help, and even worse, if the girl hadn't shown signs of life, she would have been buried."

He says the parents are charged with attempted murder.

According to Bolivia's "El Deber" newspaper, the mother and stepfather blame the child's bruises and burns on falls.

The girl's funeral was Monday in a poor neighborhood of Santa Cruz. Dr. Carlos Camacho says she is in grave condition at a hospital in the city.

With some sleuthing and checking various Bolivian media sites, I found a picture of the little girl. I'm like 99% this is her. The mother and step father have been charged and are now in jail.

Seriously though, I'm glad that this little girl made it and that her (attempted) murderers were put away.

That poor little girl. How she has suffered in her short life, and to almost be buried alive is horrific! Thank God that neighbour noticed her move. She must have been very badly beaten to be unconscious and lying so still for so long.

Bless her heart. I hope she makes a complete recovery and is re-homed with a family who will love and cherish her. I hope these two tards are stoned almost to death and then buried in moist quicklime.
