Ronald Teague Hoards 21 Cats In Motel Room

A man whose freezer was found crammed with dead cats two years ago, has been found living in a motel with 21 cats, Plano police said.

Ronald L. Teague's saga began in July of 2007 when he led police on an hour-long high-speed chase through Dallas with a dead cat inside his vehicle. When he was finally caught he told police he was trying to get his sick cat to a veterinarian's office.

The next day animal control workers went to his East Dallas house and found 25 dead cats wrapped in towels in the freezer as well as 45 live cats and 11 dogs.

The Dallas County Grand Jury indicted Teague earlier this month on felony animal cruelty charges.

Police came across Teague again on Sunday when he was pulled over on Central Expressway after someone reported a suspicious person. He was taken into custody when police realized he had outstanding animal cruelty warrants related to the July 2007 incident.

On Monday, police found 21 cats inside a messy room at the Motel 6 on Highway 75 and Park in Plano, after Teague expressed concern about his pets being unattended, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Plano Animal Services recovered the cats from inside the motel room Monday. They also found newspaper classified ads that indicate that Teague was searching for more pets, and receipts that showed he had a long history of renting motel rooms.

Animal service workers said some of the cats appeared to be in good health, but others did not.

I looked at the slide show. I was expecting far worse. I must say for having all of those cats, the room is not in bad shape.
But he also doesn't need 21 cats and looking for more.

Yeah, from the pictures it appears the cats were being taken care of. He had plenty of food for them and there were a lot of kitty litter boxes and bags. I can imagine it didn't smell too good in there, though.

One thing troubles me..why do people who hoard animals put them in the freezer when they die? I can not imagine putting a dead dog or cat in my freezer next to the food I eat. <gagging>

The cats didn't really look to me like they were being mistreated. However, I do have to wonder why this guy seems so OBSESSED with accumulating cats. I think it's kind of a given that he has some sort of disorder (OCD?) and it's manifesting in a rather unique fashion.

This is a weird story, but I am rather relieved to find that he's not hurting the poor kitties or performing any kind of weird surgeries on them.

I remember this guy. He has a pet-abuse profile. He's a classic animal hoarder.

Like a few others said, for having that many cats it was looking pretty clean. Hoarding is a disease and that mans got it. But from personal experience I've seen and been in far worse, he needs help though.

I go to help out once in a while to this animal shelter in TJ Mexico. They must have atleast 400 to 500 dogs and most of thoughs are Pit Bulls. They kind of scarred me at first, but they were actually very nice and just wanted attention and to be petted and talked to. There is like this scroungy mostly hairless pack leader , who stands next to you the whole time and kind of guards you while your in the open fenced dog area.

The actually scary part was were they kept the stray cats, I love cats , but these are all feral to the nth degree. As soon as you walk in the door they start growling and hissing at you and mostly all you can see is glowing eyes. I brought a bunch of cat toys but they wanted nothing to do with me or them. I decided I would rather take my chances with 400 pit bulls then 30 feral kittys.

Teague was admitted to the Terrell State Hospital for psychiatric counseling but just walked away several months ago and was missing. A warrant for his arrest was issued.

Local shelters and rescue groups have been on high alert since then, but yesterday afternoon, Addison Police got a break when they were alerted by an observant employee at the Motel 6 on Beltline in Addison that Teague had just checked in there. Officers responded, and were able to arrest Teague on the outstanding warrant. Addison Animal Services recovered 5 cats from his hotel room. The cats are now in the care of a local rescue group.

Even though I really don't know too much about 4 legged pussy, wouldn't this moron-psychotic or not, on his meds or off his meds- think that checking into a motel-ANY MOTEL- with 5 cats MIGHT JUST AROUSE SUSPICION?
