Thumbs up Neil Ryan Moore "lost his temper and shook the child"

A 4-month-old Enid girl is in critical condition at an Oklahoma City hospital after showing signs of being shaken, and police have arrested the girl’s father on a charge of child abuse.

Enid police arrested 22-year-old Neil Ryan Moore Sunday after interviewing the father, and he admitted to shaking the girl because she would not stop crying.

Officers responded to Integris Bass Baptist Hospital emergency room about 6:12 p.m. Sunday in reference to a possible child abuse case.

The girl was “poorly responsive, showed signs of “shaken baby syndrome” and was suspected to have suffered brain damage, according to police. The girl was taken by helicopter to OU Children’s where she remains in critical condition.

The girl’s mother was at work at the time and left the child in the care of Moore. He gave police several versions of how the girl’s injuries occurred before admitting he lost his temper and shook the child, according to the report.

    Investigators are completing the investigation.

I am so unbelievably sick and tired of reading how these idiots think shaking a crying baby will calm it down.

I know a baby who wont stop crying, no matter what you do, is very very difficult to cope with. But FFS, shaking them is clearly not the fucking answer, unless you want to shut them up permanently!

Put them down in their crib/seat and walk away. Have a coffee, take a few minutes to get your shit together. And then try again to soothe the baby.

A moment of frustration and anger, and a baby's life is ruined, her future gone. Its so sad, and so avoidable.

Word. As soon as I saw the thread title, I thought, "Another one. Sigh." Dumb bastards just can't figure out the way not to soothe a crying baby.

When my son was first born, he woke me up 14 times a night at least. Why have I never had the desire to shake my child? What triggers this response? I don't get why or how people reach that point.

This is his second child, don't you think he'd be used to the crying by this point?

    Baby Jazmine.
I also noticed that he doesn't mention his baby girl or have any pictures of her. He mentions his son and has pictures of him up. Mom has pictures of both. Seems like he didn't care about this poor baby girl.

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure it only takes a second of hard shaking to cause serious damage or death. i would imagine most of these people just get to that point where they snap, and just grab the baby by the shoulders and give them one big shake that whips the baby's large and heavy head back and forth on their neck. Baby's heads are big and out of proportion for their body size. It doesn't take much to make a baby's head whip around. They're like bobblehead dolls.

I'm not defending this person at all, but I do think that it's important to know how little shaking it actually takes to kill a baby. I think that the fact shaking kills is known but that parents /caregivers think that hurting the baby requires a lot of hard, brutal shaking, and that if they lose their tempers for a split second and just shake a little bit then it won't be bad. I hope i'm making sense, it's late and i'm typing sideways on the couch with my daughter asleep on my lap

    You took my words

It's sad how one short moment of frustration can ruin so many lives - most of all the little person's being shaked, the other parent's and the shaker's as well. (And I don't mean to say that the one shaking the baby shouldn't suffer.) Then there is the extended family.

But mostly, as I said, the baby.

I had one of those and I could not leave him in his crib to cry, his heart rate would sky rocket and could cause a heart attack. I finally called mom and dad and asked for help. Never not once did I think about hurting my son or shaking him. I did however tell him I was going to give him to the gypsies

Lol. This winter I told my very cranky 6 months old I was going to toss her in the front yard in the snow and no one would see her till spring. She just laughed.

When my son was 3 months old, he cried non-stop. I was so upset, I cried with him. I was alone. He stopped crying and looked up to me. He cooed. Then he fell asleep. Looking back, I thanked myself for being strong not to lost my temper.

You have my sympathies! My second son was like that. Even in the hospital before we came home, one of the night duty nurses came and asked if I wanted her to take him to the nursery so I could rest as he just wouldnt quit crying! (and believe me,over here they NEVER do that!). In the end, I bought one of those infant carrypacks, and it was awesome! He would settle when he was close to me like that, but I had my hands free to do other stuff. Like eat.

It is hard with a crying baby. But there are ways to deal with it without breaking them.

Just curious, did you ever consider cosleeping? In the book, "Our Babies, Ourselves" anthropologist Meredith Small (I think...going by memory) talks about how babies evolved to be next to their mothers day and night. Sleeping next to the baby helps him/her to regulate breathing, heart rate, and body temp.

Dr. William Sears also has this information in his book "birth to age two". He did a study where the same babies both coslept next to a parent and in a crib and in both cases were connected to a monitor. They had healthier heart rates and breathing rates when next to the parent.

Yes, I tried that. Cory's was born 13 weeks premature and spent 9 weeks in NICU where he had round the clock care. He was not allowed to cry because of his heart, so everytime his heart monitor would spike just a little the nurses and myself were right there to tend to him. When he came home it was just me and his father. Dad worked 11 hours a day and really needed to sleep at night, so it was more like just me. He's now 15 and perfectly normal, thank God, but a pain in the ass.

    Jazmine Kay-Lynn Moore died today

ENID, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say a 4-month-old Enid girl whom authorities allege was shaken by her father has died.

Jazmine Kay-Lynn Moore died about 2:15 p.m. Friday at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. The girl was flown there Sunday after initially being treated at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

Police arrested her 22-year-old father Neil Ryan Moore, who was arraigned Friday morning on a felony count of child abuse. According to the Oklahoma State Courts Network, the case was amended Friday afternoon to include a count of first-degree murder.

Officers say Moore gave several versions of how his daughter was hurt before allegedly admitting he lost his temper and shook her because she wouldn't stop crying.

He is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond.

    Neil Ryan Moore, 22

4-month-old Enid girl died Friday afternoon at an Oklahoma City hospital, and her father has been charged with first-degree murder in her death.

Jazmine Kay-Lynn Moore died about 2:15 p.m. at OU Medical Center. The girl had been flown to the hospital Sunday after initially being treated at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

Neil Ryan Moore was arrested, and later charged with child abuse, when he confessed to police he’d shaken the girl after giving several versions of how the child’s injuries occurred.

Moore, 22, was arraigned for the second time Friday afternoon on the capital charge, which is punishable by death, life in prison without parole or life.

Special District Judge Paul Woodward denied bond for Moore at the state’s request. A bond hearing is scheduled for Monday. Moore, who has not retained an attorney, was provided with a court-appointed attorney for the hearing.

Assistant District Attorney Mike Fields had requested bond be denied as allowed by the state Constitution. Moore showed no emotion as the charge was read to him in court.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, police were called to Bass on a case of possible child abuse. Hospital staff said Jazmine Moore was being treated for symptoms commonly caus-ed by shaking.

The girl was ’poorly responsive with obvious hemorrhaging in the eyes,’ the affidavit states. She had swelling on the brain, with bleeding on the brain down to the spinal column.

Dr. Steven Mareburger told police Jazmine was suffering from retinal hemorrhaging and a subdural hematoma, and showed signs of oxygen depravation and swelling to the brain, according to the affidavit. The doctor told police it was his opinion the baby had been shaken.

The girl had been in the care of her father, while her mother, Misty, was at work, according to the affidavit. Police spoke with Misty at the hospital, and she said she left for work about 10:45 a.m. Sunday and Jazmine was ’awake, happy and showed no signs of injury or distress.’

She said when she returned home about 4 p.m. she asked Neil Moore how the day had gone and he told her everything was fine. She said Neil said the baby had cried a lot, but he gave her a bottle and placed her down for a nap, according to the affidavit.

Misty said an hour later she went to get Jazmine and picked her up from the crib, but the baby’s arms and legs were limp and she appeared to be gasping for air, according to the affidavit. She said after getting no response they took Jazmine to the hospital.

When police spoke with Neil Moore, he gave several versions of events before admitting he had shaken the baby, according to the affidavit.

He initially told police Jazmine had started to cry after Misty went to work but he’d given her a bottle. He said he checked on her later and she was asleep. He said an hour after Misty returned from work Jazmine would not wake up. He said nothing else had happened while the baby was in his care, according to the affidavit.

While continuing to speak with police, Neil said he was washing dishes when Jazmine began to cry. He said he carried her into the kitchen with him and at one point had ’flopped her’ onto his right shoulder, according to the affidavit. He said he was irritated and could not take Jazmine’s crying. Neil told police after he put Jazmine over his shoulder he pulled her forward and her head had been forced back.

He said he gave the girl a bottle and put her in her crib, but she continued to cry and appeared to be hurt, the affidavit states. At that point police asked Moore to continue their discussion at the police station.

Moore was read his rights and agreed to continue speaking with police.

He said when he took her off his shoulder he pulled her forward using enough force to force her head back. He said when Jazmine’s head was forced back she went limp, the affidavit states. He said Jazmine was gasping for air, according to the affidavit, and when Misty got home from work and asked where Jazmine was he told her the baby was sleeping. He said he did not tell Misty what happened because he did not want to upset her.

Police told Neil the explanation he gave would not have caused the type of injuries Jazmine had suffered. He then told police he had put the girl over his shoulder then held her in front of him and shook her three to five times, the affidavit states. When police asked how hard Neil had shaken the baby, he said hard enough, according to the affidavit.

Neil used an infant doll to show how hard he had shaken Jazmine, which was hard enough to make the doll’s head move forcefully back and forth several times, according to the affidavit. Neil said he put Jazmine back in her crib two hours before Misty came home from work. He said Jazmine continually gasped for air from the time he shook her until the time Misty picked her up, according to the affidavit.

At the conclusion of the interview, Neil told police he knew ’... that this was his fault and it kills him that he had done this,’ the affidavit states.

A bond hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday.

Funeral arrangements for Jazmine Moore are pending with Henninger-Hinson Fun-eral Home.

    You. Fucking. Bastard.

He inflicted terribel injuries on her, then left her alone to suffer in her crib. He knew the baby was gasping for breath, but he calmly lied his fucking ass off to Misty, and showed no emotion as the carges were read.

    He must be dead inside.

I hope he gets life without parole, and is beaten and abused continually by bubba and bubba's bitches. Death would be too swift for him.

Kill might be the opt word for him. I doubt he will make it in prison long. And hell will be waiting too.

    I'm horrified, sickened repulsed.
The mother's posting here understand all too well how difficult a crying baby can be, especially when your healing from child birth and major surgery. There were nights that I swore I'd die from lack of sleep. My entire body hurt, hell it hurt to move. I could feel that my patience was long gone. One night. I just lay on the floor and let the baby cry for a while. I was to weak to do much more but wait. Hubs was unexpectedly taken out of town that weekend so I found myself with no relief. I don't know how long I lay there but when I dragged myself up, baby was calmer, I was collected and we made the night. I cannot imagine ever bringing my own hands to the child I love and causing such grave harm. Can't imagine.

Sweet baby Jazmine, my heart breaks, simply breaks. I wish things like this never happened. Sorry sweet one...kisses.

Wait. . .WHAT? I'd be DELIGHTED to lose this guy if I were you. He lost his temper and killed your child FFS! Lady, put the penis down. He isn't worth it.

I am very sorry that you lost your daughter. I truly am. I just don't see how you can defend a man who killed your child. It matters not whether he meant to do it, the fact is he did.

I, for one, have never lost my temper with anyone enough to physically harm them. It's called self-control and hella anger management skillz. Jesus.

    Oh, we NEVER quit.

Feel free to enlighten us about what we "don't know".

Lady, I'm sorry for your loss. You had a beautiful daughter.

However, we're not butting in your business. We're discussing something that was in the news, and using photos that you posted on the internet for the world to see.

I absolutely cannot believe that you are defending what your husband has done. You're telling us to stop picking on the guy who killed your daughter. YOUR DAUGHTER. I agree with WD, if I were you, I wouldn't be too upset about having this guy taken out of my life for good. Ask yourself this: If he were acquitted and you could still be with him, and have another child, would you ever, EVER trust him alone with that child in your life?

I think we both know the answer.

Just an FYI, jazmine'smoma is editing her post for at least the third time right now.

WD has the original quoted in her excellent response.

Oh My God, you are the mother of the baby? Are you defending the evil piece of shit who murdered your baby? Please tell me you're not!!

I am truly sorry for the loss of your baby, I couldn't imagine that. But if you still love him, and are standing by him, you deserve every bit of pain you've been thru.

If however, you want him to die, welcome aboard!

    No problem Peeper.

I am still waiting to hear the "facts" from mom there. She has signed off it seems. Looks like we shall remain unenlightened.
