Cops got quite a handful trying to arrest a naked woman roaming a busy Frayser street.
Memphis Police arrested the bold boozer in front of rush hour traffic along Thomas Street in Frayser. People there say they've had trouble with 46
year-old Karen Sims before, but nothing like this. She was naked as a jaybird, drunk as a skunk, and causing a racket. In fact, neighbors say she'd been a naked nuisance all day.
We met James Chambers as he re-told the story to a customer. "I saw a lady walking down the street acting peculiar, I didn't know what it was. I thought maybe she had problems."
When he saw her, she still had her clothes on. Perhaps, the bottle of bourbon hadn't kicked in.
"I didn't know what that was in her hand. I saw her with something, a bottle or whatever," recalls Chambers.
Alvaro Pacheco and Gonzalo Tocarruncho caught the biggest eyeful.
"She drank too much and she off up her clothes," says Pacheco with a nervous grin.
Each night, they've had trouble in the backyard. Things have even gone missing. Wednesday, Sims ignored the 'No Trespassing' signs, and for hours begged for them drinking money. Tocarruncho asked her to leave. Then she took off her shirt. He called the cops, so she took off her pants.
"She is crazy," says Pacheco. "She needs a hospital or jail, I don't know which."
He says she hung around all day and when cops arrived she didn't go easy. They say she was "…belligerent and profane, cursing loudly, screaming, and refused to obey officers' commands."
This isn't Sims' first run-in with authorities. This time, she's been charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct, public indecency and public intoxication.
