A young man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 13-month-old son.

The toddler passed away in October 2008. An autopsy determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Miami-Dade police were call to the apartment on NE 6th Avenue October 10, 2008 by the child's sole caretaker, 24-year-old Jarvis Allen. In Allen's initial statements, he claimed his son had been sick a few days before he died. Later, Allen said the child fell off his bed onto a pile of toys before he stopped breathing.

The Medical Examiner has stated the injury could not happen the way Allen described it.

Allen has been charged in the past with trespassing and cocaine possession.
