The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office's animal cruelty unit made six arrests Monday night in connection with incidents dating back as much as three years.
Sheriff's deputies executed warrants related to 30 Valley residents wanted in connection with animal cruelty incidents, a press release said. Six arrests were made.
Adam Munoz, 22, was arrested after deputies found a pit bull puppy with a chain embedded in its neck. The chain had caused a severe infection, the release said.
Carlos Valenzuela, 32, and Rachel Tellez, 32, were arrested after deputies found nine dogs either dead or extremely malnourished on their Avondale property in August 2008.
Eliselo Lechuga, 62, was arrested on suspicion of two felony animal cruelty counts and two misdemeanor animal cruelty charges stemming from an unspecified incident.
Susana Salinas was arrested in relation to an incident in which she violently shook her dog while deputies were at her Wittman home on a welfare check.
Juan Perez was arrested after two horses he owned were found to be extremely undernourished in June 2008. The horses were in such bad condition, they were euthanized, the release said.
