Mom and Dad Degroot were given 6 months each in a plea deal for the death of their autistic son.

Christopher Degroot, a 19 year old autistic man, died after recieving burns on 80% of his body when a fire broke out while he was locked alone in the house.

Over time, the Degroots left for longer periods of time,always locking Christopher in so he wouldn't wander and get hurt.

This is a hard one to judge for me, he has enough life experience to be alone for awhile, and it probably made him feel good to be a little independent in a world he was comfortable with. On the other hand, you never know what might happen, and something did.
