NEWMARKET —
A 20-year-old woman was charged with assault after she bit another woman and slashed a man three times with a cleaver-type knife, say police.
Brianna Smith, of 9 Bay Road, Apt. #4, was arrested by Newmarket Police on March 19 and charged with three counts of first-degree assault and two counts of simple assault. According to Police Chief Kevin Cyr the charges stem from a domestic incident that occurred in the kitchen area of Smith’s apartment at 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18.
Smith is alleged to have punched an adult male in the face, bit an adult female on the arm and then slashed the male three times with a knife on his back, side and hand. The injuries were not life threatening.
Cyr said Smith fled from the scene following the incident. She was later located hiding a short distance away in the apartment complex’s parking lot, police said. The search for Smith was conducted by Newmarket, Durham and Newfields Police and Dover Police Department’s K-9 unit.
The names of the female and male victims have not been released. The male victim was treated and released from the Exeter Hospital.
Smith was arraigned Friday, March 20, in the Exeter District Court and is held on $15,000 cash bail. She is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on March 25.
Although Cyr said Smith does have a prior record, there was nothing to this extent.
