A Narcissa woman has been charged with two counts of child sexual abuse.
Ashley Burdick, 28, was taken into custody last week after a lengthy investigation into the sexual abuse of a 3-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl
.
Deputy Dan Christophel began investigating Burdick after complaints from the children’s father and grandparents.
“The father and paternal grandparents informed authorities that they observed marks and bruising on the children on separate occasions after visiting Burdick,” Christophel wrote in a report.
Due to the children’s ages when the complaint was initially made in 2007, investigators were unable to confirm any type of abuse.
On Dec. 3, 2008, a caretaker of the children reported abnormal sexual behavior between the children.
Ultimately, the children were referred to a psychologist for “unusual sexual behavior.”
It was while undergoing counseling that the children revealed a long history of physical and sexual abuse by Burdick.
Both children have undergone forensic evaluations as well as clinical evaluations.
Authorities interviewed Burdick and she denies the children have been abused by her.
“DHS was involved with these children as recent as November of 2008,” the report states. “They were unable to speak with Burdick because she refused interviews.”
Burdick is currently incarcerated in Ottawa County pending bond.
Authorities believe the children were also being abused by a male who lived in Burdick’s home prior to his incarceration.
