ST. GEORGE - A St. George man was reportedly s
tabbed several times by his male roommate Sunday and later transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center for treatment.
"Two male subjects were involved in a
physical altercation in which one of them was stabbed," said Lt. Mike Giles, of the St. George Police Department.
Edward Jay Kennedy, 57, was charged with felony domestic violence aggravated assault, after allegedly
stabbing his roommate several times Sunday, Giles said. He was booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail.
The alleged victim
did not sustain life-threatening wounds, Giles said.
"I heard he is going to be fine," he said
"My understanding is he is going to be released today from the hospital."
As he stood outside the crime scene on 639 E. 700 South,
Shay Gubler, 38, a friend and roommate of both men involved, said the men were intoxicated at the time of the incident and stepped outside of the apartment to fight after an argument.
Gubler said he did not witness Kennedy and the other man fighting,
but he looked out a window and after the altercation saw the alleged victim lying in the bushes outside the apartment building.
"I thought he (Kennedy) just pushed him in the bushes," Gubler said.
The alleged
victim eventually stood up and walked to the apartment door, Gubler said, revealing several stab wounds on the side of his back.
"There was blood everywhere," he said,
pointing to bloodstains on his pants, shirt and arms. "He was slumped over. There was blood all over his side. I picked him up and put him in a back bedroom."
Gubler said he called police shortly after noticing his friend's physical condition.
Before realizing his friend has been stabbed, Gubler said
Kennedy reentered the apartment and handed him a knife.
There were no noticeable signs of blood on the knife, and he did not yet know his friend had been stabbed, so he returned the knife to its proper place in a drawer.
He said the two men were in their 50s have been roommates for approximately 10 to 15 years.
