Palm Bay, FL -- Police say Miguel Alejandro Torres-Delarosa nearly strangled his two-year-old child to death.

The father of a 2-year-old boy is facing charges of attempted murder after police say he choked his son with a belt after the child soiled his diaper.

Palm Bay Police said 23-Miguel Alejandro Torres-Delarosa was watching his son and his 4-year-old daughter Friday while their mother was at work. When he returned the children to their mother later in the evening, the boy's eyes were swollen and he had marks around his neck, police said. When the mother asked Torres-Delarosa about it, he said he didn't know how it happened, authorities said.

The mother consulted her friend, who was a nurse, and then brought the child to the emergency room. Doctors confirmed he had been choked or strangled, and detectives with the Special Victims Unit began an investigation, authorities said.

Palm Bay police have charged the father of a 2-year-old boy with attempted murder after he allegedly strangled the toddler nearly to death over a dirty diaper.

Miguel Alejandro Torres-Delarosa, 23, was arrested late Saturday and is being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex without bond, police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said.

He faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated child abuse.

Torres-Delarosa has a 2-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter. On Friday, the children's mother dropped off the two toddlers to stay with Torres-Delarosa while she went to work, reports show.

Martinez said Torres-Delarosa became angry with his son because he soiled his diaper shortly after being changed. Detectives believe Torres-Delarosa tied a belt around the boy’s throat and began to strangle him.

“This is more than a severe case of child abuse,” Palm Bay Police Detective Jasmine Campbell said. “The doctors are telling us if he had gone any longer, this child would have been dead.”

Torres-Delarosa returned the children to their mother later that evening — and she immediately noticed the boy’s eyes were swollen and he had marks around his neck, Martinez said.

Friday night, the mother took the child to a nurse friend, then the emergency room. Doctors confirmed the boy had been choked or strangled, and detectives with the Palm Bay police special victims unit began an investigation, Martinez said.

Upon questioning, Torres-Delarosa reportedly told the mother he didn’t know how the boy was injured.

Doctors will continue to monitor and test the boy for potential internal injuries, Martinez said.

Ok, I don't have kids, so correct if I'm wrong...aren't 2 year olds supposed to soil their diapers? Isn't that a "diaper year" or should they be scrubbing the bathroom floor with Bon Ami by that age?

I have a 15 month old and I can honestly say that I have never found myself feeling rage-over having to change a diaper. That is just beyond my comprehension. That includes the time my daughter managed to chuck a golf ball sized turd at me...

My boy now 5, put me thru the ringer with potty training...he did EVERYTHING that was considered rare and found only by those 2% that are most difficult to train. I can say with all honesty there were times I pulled my own hair out and considered joining him in the poop dance, as I knew I was losing my mind. Never, ever, did I punish him with physical abuse of any kind. I survived, he survived.

You pieceoshit baby beater, I hope, no I pray that your depraved, sick, fuckn' ugly face gets beat mercilessly and that you experience at least several times, coming near to death, by strangulation. I have this feeling I won't have to hope too much.

Note to mother: I'll be very glad to track this fucker down and strangle him myself!
