Amanda Schindler hit a pedestrian then left the scene

TAMPA — A Seffner woman was accused of running over a pedestrian Friday night near the University of South Florida, then driving home, leaving the person dead in the road.

The driver, Amanda E. Schindler, 31, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and driving with a suspended license. The accident killed Edward J. Gigler, 53, of Palm Bay.

This is what the Sheriff's Office says happened:

At about 9 p.m. Friday, Schindler, of 402 Roberts Road in Seffner, was driving her 1994 Dodge pickup truck on Fletcher Avenue near Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. Gigler was walking south across Fletcher Avenue when the truck hit him. He died at the scene.

Schindler drove away from the crash and went home, an arrest affidavit states.

Witnesses reported the suspected vehicle as a dark-colored pickup truck. When Schindler got home, she called 911 to report that someone had ripped off her side-view mirror.

A detective went to her house and noticed that the damage to her truck matched that of the suspected vehicle in the hit and run. The truck also had blood on the driver's side, the report states.

In an interview, Schindler told detectives that she saw the man walking across the street but did not attempt to stop. She was aware her truck hit him, she told detectives. She said she continued driving home because she was frightened about the incident and had her children in the truck.

She also said that her driver's license was suspended because she didn't have insurance.

Schindler was arrested and taken to the Orient Road Jail. Her bail was set at $17,000.

I hate Hit and run Assholes. And the bitch had her kids in the car when she did it, what a Tard. Dumb on her for calling the cops about her drivers side missing mirror and KUDO's to the detective for putting 1+1=2 togeather.

On a side note, Amanda's arrest page says her occupation is professional blood letter "PHLEBOTOMIST". (a blood specimen extractor). Some how I don't believe a car should be used for that.
