BEAVERTON, Ore. - A 23-year-old father faces abuse charges after his 3-month-old son was brought to a local hospital with numerous external injuries.

The situation developed Thursday afternoon when the Beaverton Police Department was called to Providence St. Vincent's Hospital to investigate the possible physical abuse of a baby.

Police said according to staff at the hospital, the infant had been brought in by the mother after an extended period of continuous crying. Once the staff took a look at the baby and noticed injuries consistent with abuse, they informed police.

According to police, statements made by both parents confirmed that the child had been physically abused by the father the previous morning. Detectives also learned that tests revealed that the child had previous injuries that were in the process of healing. After interviewing the father, investigators believe the child had been assaulted not only this week but also about a month ago.

The father, 23-year-old Kenneth Dobrinin, was arrested on several charges, including second-degree assault, third-degree assault and criminal mistreatment.

The infant, which is now in the custody of the Department of Human Services, is the couple's only child.

A 23-year-old Beaverton man is facing assault charges for allegedly abusing his three-month-old baby boy.

Kenneth Dobrinin has been lodged in the Washington County Jail, charged with assault in the second and third degree, as well as two counts of criminal mistreatment.

The baby’s mother brought her child into St. Vincent’s Hospital on March 12 because he hadn’t stopped crying for an extended period of time. Hospital staff called Beaverton Police after noticing numerous external injuries on the baby, injuries that often align with signs of physical abuse.

And the hospital staff members weren’t buying the mother’s explanations for the injuries, which they told police were implausible. Detectives spoke with both parents, who told officers that Dobrinin had physically abused his son.

The child was kept overnight in the hospital and is now in the custody of the Department of Human Services.

While they were examining the child, hospital staff noticed that he had injuries from about a month ago. Detectives interviewed Dobrinin, who allegedly told police that he had abused his son one month ago and again on March 11.

Assault in the second degree is a measure 11 crime, which has a minimum mandatory sentence of just under six years.

The Dobrinins have no other children
