Bruce Benford drops 2 month old baby 3 times

A Daytona Beach man faces three counts of child neglect for injuries caused to a 2-month-old baby.

Daytona Beach Police arrested 23-year-old Bruce T. Benford after he gave conflicting statements that were not consistent with the medical assessments of the baby, Sgt. Jimmie Flynt said.

The baby was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center Saturday when the mother noticed the child's left arm was limp after slipping out of her hands and falling about 12 inches during a bath, Flynt said.

After the baby was released, the mother was called back to the hospital because X-rays showed additional injuries including healing rib fractures and a hemorrhage of the right eye, Flynt said.

Benford is accused of dropping the child three times and not seeking hospital treatment.

So the mother dropped the baby too?

That poor baby was dropped several times, surprised that the baby wasn't injured more seriously. No way it was an accident either...I've never dropped my baby once. I hope they take the baby out of that home.

DAYTONA BEACH -- A man who gave conflicting accounts about how his 2-month-old son was injured was arrested and charged with child neglect, Daytona Beach police said this morning.

Benford
The infant's mother was bathing him Saturday and said the child slipped from her hands and fell about a foot into the sink, police said. When she was dressing the baby, she then realized his left arm was limp.

DAYTONA BEACH -- A 23-year-old man who told police he repeatedly dropped his 2-month-old son was charged with child neglect, police said Wednesday.

Bruce Benford gave police several conflicting accounts of why the baby had broken ribs, a broken upper arm bone and a hemorrhaging eye, and none of the stories matched the assessments of doctors at the hospital, police said. He was charged Tuesday.

The child was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center over the weekend after he again fell when his mother was bathing him in a sink, police said. When the mother -- whose name was not released -- was dressing the baby, she noticed his left arm was limp, police said.

When detectives interviewed Benford, he told them he had dropped the baby at least three times on separate occasions.

In one incident, Benford was apparently trying to save an entertainment center from toppling over. The entertainment center never hit the floor, but the baby did, police said, and broke his arm. Another time the baby was dropped, the boy struck a coffee table, police said..
Benford was being held Wednesday at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $7,500 bail..
