Two year old girl killed by falling television.

A two-year-old girl has died after a television set toppled on to her at her home.

Karli Ann Watt is believed to have been alone in a room when the television fell over and pinned her to the floor

The toddler's parents heard a crashing noise and rushed into the room, where they discovered their injured child.
She was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh where she later died.
The accident happened at the family's home in the Howdenhall area of Edinburgh on Saturday.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: 'We are investigating the death of a two-year-old girl from Edinburgh.
'We do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances at this time; however, inquiries are ongoing.'
A post-mortem is due to be carried out as part of the investigation into the toddler's death..

The accident comes three months after the death of Emily May Hughes, who was killed when her father tripped and dropped a television set on her.
The Christmas Day tragedy happened at the family home in Coedpoeth, North Wales.
And in July last year 13-month-old Riyaz Ghaazi, from Swansea, South Wales, died when a television set fell from a chest of drawers on top of him.
The boy is believed to have been trying to pull himself up using a chest of drawers on which the television was standing when it toppled over.

I know this forum is titled 'Foreign Crime', and that this is not a crime story. I just thought it was really sad and tragic and deserved a mention.

Poor little girl. R.I.P Karli Ann.

All too familiar with this kind of thing...my nephew was injured by a toppling TV, he lived and was a miracle he did so.

The other cases, are so incredibly heart breaking. The Emily incident on Christmas was just horrific. The other one I read was due to a sibling pulling at something on the set as his little brother was at his side injured one killed the other.

I had hubs secure anything and all things that could possibly fall as little hands and feet try to climb and pull at just about everything. That was 5 yrs. ago. Now we have other issues as my 18 month old finds every possible way to climb things....he's fearless too.

In a statement issued through Lothian and Borders Police today, Mr Watt said: "My wife and I are devastated, and still very much in shock at this tragic time.

"Our little princess, Karli, meant the world to us. She was loved so much by both of us, and will always be in our hearts.
Rest in peace little princess Karli...I know you are an angel in the heavens....

These stories are so tragic and most are preventable. You can buy anchors and tethers that are specifically made to keep the furniture from falling on a child who climbs it, as well as pulling down tv's. When dd started to walk, we tethered her dresser to the wall and we anchored all the tv's to their stands.
