Statewide child-porn network being busted

Federal, state, local officials say 40 warrants will be served by end of Tuesday

Officers and agents from 19 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies swept across Georgia on Tuesday, seizing computers and arresting members of an internet child pornography network.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said 40 search warrants will have been served by the end of the day Tuesday. By noon, 10 people had been arrested and more arrests were expected as officers from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force seized the computers that linked the network.The operation known as “Operation Shattered Innocence” included 17 local agencies from all regions in the state — Cherokee and Cobb counties in the north, Lowndes and Dougherty counties in the south, Carrollton and Columbus in the west and Chatham and Richmond Counties in the east.
Other metro law enforcement officers involved were from county and city agencies within DeKalb, Rockdale, Forsyth and Gwinnett counties as well as federal officers and the Georgia Attorney General’s Office.
The U.S. Department of Justice created the 98-agency task force but it is run by the GBI to address the increasing number of children and teenagers using the Internet, the proliferation of child pornography, and the heightened online activity by predators searching for underage victims.

Reading something like this makes me proud to live in Georgia. By midnight 40 (or more) true criminals will be behind bars some where in this state.

WOW GBI is moving fast.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, along with local and federal law enforcement agencies, had made 16 arrests and confiscated 60 computers by Tuesday afternoon in a sweep that began in the morning.

Jason Nash, 31, was arrested around 8 a.m. this morning at the home he shares with his parents in the 4000 Block of Danube Circle in Valdosta for possession of child pornography.
Investigators say they've been tracking Nash for a few weeks on the Internet as part of a statewide child pornography investigation called Operation Shattered innocence.
While Nash's laptop computer was confiscated and is being examined by forensic technicians, neighbors who knew him say he is a friendly man who participates in the U.S. Marine's Toys for Tots Ride every year.
"We've all just been neighbors for 20 years and that's the only thing I know and I've never seen him do anything wrong and not even have kids over there," said Clarence Jones, a neighbor who knew Nash since he was a little boy.
If convicted, Nash, who is charged with one count of child pornography, could face up 25 year in prison and a $25,000 fine.

The following people are just a few of the criminal arrested yesterday in Georgia through “Operation Shattered Innocence”.

By 10 p.m. Tuesday, 19 local, state and federal law enforcement officers in Georgia had seized 74 computers.

ATLANTA -- 19 people arrested Tuesday in a statewide crackdown on the distribution of child pornography over the Internet.

"Operation Shattered Innocence" led to the arrests of a 16-year-old boy from Cherokee County and a 14-year-old boy, whose names have not been released.A 14-year-old in Forsyth County was charged with sexual exploitation of children, a state charge.

It involves some sick stuff, including nude photos of children, even toddlers, plus images of children involved in sexual situations.

The search resulted in the arrest of Jason Alvin Nash, age 31 who is charged with one count of Possession of Child Pornography. Nash is currently in the Lowndes County Jail.

In downtown Atlanta, Christian Lung made an initial appearance before a U.S. magistrate judge on a federal charge of receiving child pornography.

Reginald Tyrone Jackson, 34, was charged with the sexual exploitation of children after Dougherty County Police investigators and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents raided his home on the 500 block of 8th Avenue Monday morning, Chief Don Cheek said.

The GBI now says at least 21 people have been arrested and 100 computers seized after the second day of a statewide sweep of child porn suspects.

Two Columbus men are behind bars, both charged with sexual exploitation of children.
Columbus Police officers found pornographic images of young girls on the computers of Michael Mays and Steven Commander, after executing search warrants Tuesday as part of Operation Shattered Innocence, which netted 21 arrests around the state.

Eastman GBI Agent Greg Harvey said a search warrant was executed on the home of William Edward Brantley, 37, of 101 Hill St., in East Dublin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Loganville Police Department and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a joint investigation with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation that resulted in the arrest of Ronald Ferguson, 57, of 4376 Scout Hill Drive, and Patrick Northcutt, 45, of 755 Ridge Terrace, both in Loganville.

Two Columbus men swept up in the GBI’s “Operation Shattered Innocence” sting waived their preliminary hearings today and pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual exploitation of children.
Army Spc. Michael Mayes, 24, and Steven Commander, 21, were given a $2,500 bond by Columbus Recorder’s Court Judge Michael Joyner for each count they face. Mayes has a $2,500 bond while Commander has $7,500 for his three counts.

Also arrested at the trailer was Commander’s mother, Pamela Ritter, who faces a misdemeanor charge of possessing marijuana, the lieutenant said.
