The man was arrested a short time after the attack, said Detective Nicole Monroe, a city police spokeswoman. He was identified as Tyron Markit Mason, 29, police said. Battalion Chief Kevin Cartwright said the grandmother and the man were arguing at her home in the 1400 block of Poplar Grove St. about 5:15 p.m. Sunday when he is said to have doused her with alcohol and set her on fire. Cartwright said the victim, Ethel Henderson, ran from the house as flames burned her head, face and upper body. He said a retired city firefighter who lives on the street heard the woman's screams and extinguished the flames with his shirt. Henderson was taken by ambulance to the burn unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where she was being treated and was reported last night in serious condition, Cartwright said.

Fire department spokesman Kevin Cartwright said Ethel Henderson suffered second- and third-degree burns over 35 percent of her body.
Her grandson, 29-year-old Tyron Mason, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Police spokeswoman Nicole Monroe said Mason set his grandmother on fire with shellac thinner and a cigarette lighter Sunday afternoon after he asked her for money and she refused.
Henderson ran out of her house with her hair and clothing on fire, and a neighbor helped douse the flames. Investigators said Henderson was able to identify her assailant as her grandson.
Mason was arrested a short time after the incident at the home of another relative.
A family member told 11 News that Mason has been treated for mental health issues.
Henderson was taken to the burn center at Johns Hopkins Bayview, where she was listed in critical condition.
