British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is, the first European leader to visit Obama since his inauguration. He presented Presedent Obama with:

1. A pen holder fashioned from the oak timber of HMS Gannet, a Navy vessel that served on anti-slavery missions off Africa.
2. A framed commissioning paper for the HMS Resolute, a Royal Navy ship that came to symbolize British-American goodwill when it was rescued by the U.S. from icebergs and given to Queen Victoria. It is the sister ship of the HMS Gannet.
3. A first edition of Martin Gilbert's seven-volume biography of Winston Churchill.

Presedent Obama presented Prime Minister Gordon Brown with:

1. A "special collector's box" of 25 classic American movie DVDs.

The Prime Minister's wife Sarah Brown gave the Obama children:

1. An outfit each from Topshop, a British chain of clothing stores.
2. Six specially selected children's books by British authors which have yet to be published in the U.S.

First Lady Michelle Obama presented the prime minister's two boys with:

1. Toy helicopters modeled after Marine One.

"The pen set is being displayed on the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office and the books are in the President's personal study adjoining the Oval Office," the White House said in a statement.

I wonder where the DVDs will be proudly displayed.

I'm not gonna razz the Obama's about their gifts, regardless of how poorly thought out, because we all know how tough it is to gift people you don't really know.
However, I'd love to know WTF people were thinking here:

The Obamas didn't pick out the gift. They just OKed it.

Somehow giving DVDs to a guy who has sight problems seems a bit hilarious. (He's blind in one eye and has troubles with the other)

Also, strictly from how I was raised, the gift from the host should not exceed the gift to the host. It's the basis of "party favors" and hostess gifts kind of crap. Although I hardly think that is what was really going on there.
