http://www.theleafchronicle.com/arti...RIME/903080327Clarksville police have charged a 28-year-old Clarksville man in the slaying of his wife.
Khaleefa Lambert was charged with first-degree murder. He is being held without bond at Montgomery County Jail.
His 18-year-old wife, Ashley Cecelia Barnes-Lambert, was found dead in his 2007 Mercury Mariner when a state trooper stopped it on Interstate 24 on Saturday.
Police say Lambert told them Saturday morning he waited outside the Microtel Inn where his wife had been staying. When she came out, he approached her, and he admitted he "hurt her with a knife" before putting her into the vehicle he was driving.
At approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Krystal Mathis was parked on the interstate's eastbound shoulder beneath the Exit 1 overpass when the Mercury SUV nearly struck her patrol car.
Mathis pulled over the vehicle and found Lambert crying with a towel wrapped around his hand, according to a news release. He told the trooper "he didn't mean to hurt her."
Mathis then saw Ashley Lambert, who was a member of the U.S. Army, in the back floor of the Mariner.
