A Somerset County community is mourning the loss of three high school athletes who were killed in a crash after school Thursday.
The three boys died when the car they were riding in struck a guardrail on Route 219 and plunged off a bridge into Elk Lick Creek.
Investigators said the driver, 16-year-old Austin Johnson, was racing another car when he lost control of the vehicle.
Along with Johnson, also killed were 15-year-old Logan Buterbaugh and 16-year-old Lee Gnagey.
The boys attended Meyersdale High School and were all on the school baseball team. Gnagey and Johnson also played football and Buterbaugh performed in high school musicals. All of the boys have younger brothers and sisters in the Meyersdale district.
More than a dozen counselors were at the high school to help people cope with the tragedy.
An accident reconstructionist was back at the scent Friday and autopsies results are pending from the Somerset County coroner.
