A 80 lbs. 9-year-old Brazilian girl pregnant with twins. Her stepfather is the daddy

Nothing personal to any people here who belong to the Catholic Church, but WTF!!!!!

A archbishop says all those who helped a child rape victim secure an abortion are to be excommunicated from the Catholic Church.

The girl, aged nine, who lives in the north-eastern state of Pernambuco, became pregnant with twins.

It is alleged that she had been sexually assaulted over a number of years by her stepfather. The excommunication applies to the child's mother and the doctors involved in the procedure. The pregnancy was terminated on Wednesday.

Abortion is only permitted in Brazil in cases of rape and where the mother's life is at risk and doctors say the girl's case met both these conditions.

Police believe that the girl at the centre of the case had been sexually abused by her step-father since she was six years old.

The fact that she was pregnant with twins was only discovered after she was taken to hospital in Pernambuco complaining of stomach pains.

Her stepfather was arrested last week, allegedly as he tried to escape to another region of the country. He is also suspected of abusing the girl's physically handicapped older sister who is now 14.

    Intervention bid

The Catholic Church tried to intervene to prevent the abortion going ahead but the procedure was carried out on Wednesday. Now a Church spokesman says all those involved, including the child's mother and the doctors, are to be excommunicated.

The Archbishop of Olinda and Recife, Jose Cardoso Sobrinho, told Brazil's TV Globo that the law of God was above any human law. He said the excommunication would not apply to the child because of her age, but would affect all those who ensured the abortion was carried out.

However, doctors at the hospital said they had to take account of the welfare of the girl, and that she was so small that her uterus did not have the ability to contain one child let alone two.

While the action of the Church in opposing an abortion for a young rape victim is not unprecedented, it has attracted criticism from women's rights groups in Brazil.

ABORTION A 9-year-old girl who was carrying twins, and whose stepfather is suspected of raping her, underwent an abortion on Wednesday despite complaints from Brazil’s Roman Catholic Church. The stepfather has been jailed since last week, the police said. Abortion is illegal in Brazil, the country with the most Roman Catholics, but judges can make exceptions if the mother’s life is in danger or the fetus has no chance of survival. Fatima Maia, director of the public university hospital where the abortion was performed, said the pregnancy, which was in its 15th week, posed a serious risk to the girl, who weighs 80 pounds. But Marcio Miranda, a lawyer for the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife in northeastern Brazil, said the girl should have carried the twins to term and had a Caesarean section. “It’s the law of God: Do not kill,” he said in comments reported by the newspaper O Globo.

The Catholic Church in Brazil is off its frigging rocker. I'm not talking about being a tiny bit nuts here. We're talking over-the-top sheer gibbering insanity. The kind of insanity that's indistinguishable from pure evil, and has much the same effect.

The BBC is reporting on a hideously tragic child abuse case - a nine year old girl was found to be pregnant, with twins, as the result of sexual abuse inflicted upon her by her stepfather. I know you really don't want to, but try to wrap your mind around that concept. A nine year old, reportedly raped repeatedly by this monster over a period of three years, reports to the emergency room with stomach pains and is found to be over three months pregnant.

In Brazil, there is very limited access to legal abortion. However, abortion is permitted in cases of rape, and it's permitted in cases where there is a clear danger to the life of the mother. Both of these conditions were very, very clearly met in this case. It should not need to be said that it is not possible for a 9 year old to consent to sex, so any pregnancy in a child that young is certainly the product of rape. The child - the baby - in question reportedly weighs 80 pounds, and doctors quickly concluded that she could not safely carry one child to term, let alone two.

Here's where things get much worse. And let's stop and think about that for just a second, because that's something that quite should simply not be possible. But here is where the Holy Roman Catholic Church decided to step in.

Upon hearing that these pregnancies were going to be terminated, the Catholic Church responded by attempting to take legal action to stop the abortions. Yes, you read that right. The Church's response to the tragedy of a pregnant baby - one who was very clearly physically incapable of safely bearing children - was to attempt to force the child to carry the two fetuses to term. From the NYT article:

Marcio Miranda, a lawyer for the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife in northeastern Brazil, said the girl should have carried the twins to term and had a Caesarean section. "It's the law of God: Do not kill," he said in comments reported by the newspaper O Globo.
Apparently, in the twisted world of the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife, or at least in the twisted mind of Marcio Miranda, it's OK if the child dies trying to carry these babies - probably because it'll really be God doing the killing. With this attitude, Mr. Miranda becomes the second monster to enter this story.

    But not the last.

The pregnancies were terminated yesterday. At that point, Marcio the Misogynist's boss joined the crowd of sick, twisted bastards involved in this catastrophe:

The Catholic Church's archbishop for the area criticized the decision as against "the law of God" and excommunicated her mother, the doctors and other people involved in the abortion.
I'm out of words for this. Sick, twisted, women-hating, misogynistic, evil, insane - none of them manage to do this justice. I can't even swear - there's no obscenity I can utter that would be more obscene than this sad facet of reality.

In the face of a massive tragedy, at a time when everyone involved desperately needed comfort and compassion, the Church spat in their faces and threw them out.

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and hug my daughter. And take a shower.

Wow....I cant believe ANY of this! First that a 9 yr old could even GET pregnant...was abused for 43 yrs by her stepdad....Did Mommy NOT know this???? And the Catholic Church???? I'm catholic...but they are WRONGO!!!!! God would not want her to die. Thats horrible...how can a 9 yr old carry babies inside of her teeny tiny undeveloped uterus?????

Obviously doctors thought she could NOT survive it, and I bet the babies would not have either. It is a tragic story....this poor little girl and what she has been through. I cannot even imagine.

I hope stepdaddy gets the maximum punishment!

Thats pretty funny to me that they excommunicated, the child's mother and the doctors, but not the man who raped and impregnated his own 9 year old daughter. Ohh no , all he has to do is go to confession and be forgivin for his crimes. Nothing personal to any Catholic's, but thats whacked.

I'm Catholic...but I totally agree. We dont go to church much....I had my children baptised....and the occassional wedding/funeral....thats about it. I pray though...and I believe in God. My parents never made me make my communion or confirmation...so I guess the going to church thing never stuck.

I guess just cuz your parents baptised you one religion...doesnt mean you have to believe in all THEIR beliefs.....I have a mind of my own....and I DO NOT agree with this church's decision's.
