The Hercules woman found dead in her home Thursday
likely laid in a stairwell overnight while her husband — her assailant, police say — slumbered elsewhere in the house.
Relatives of 59-year-old Norman McGinnis let themselves into the house on Ivy Bay Court and discovered the body, Hercules police Chief Fred Deltorchio said.
"At 10:02 a.m. we got a 911 call from a hysterical woman. There was a woman unconscious in the house," Deltorchio said. "When firefighters and paramedics arrived, they found a woman who
had been deceased for some time, hours at least."
Police arrested McGinnis at the house, and booked him into County Jail in Martinez on suspicion of murder.
Investigators believe he killed his wife, 43-year-old Wyander Ricketts, by
beating her head with a blunt object about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Deltorchio declined to discuss physical evidence found at the crime scene to preserve elements of the investigation.
The couple was married about a year, Deltorchio said, and police had previously been called to the house over domestic violence allegations, most recently in January.
