A Pinyon man has been federally charged in connection with an incident where another man was run over with a truck.

According to information from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Flagstaff, Navajo Nation investigators responded to a home near Pinyon on March 1 on a report of a badly injured person who had been run over by a truck. The victim, who suffered severe injuries to his legs and a collapsed lung, was transported to Phoenix for treatment. Witnesses told investigators that the suspect, a family member of the victim, had been threatening to kill the victim several times during the day. He took a work truck, went to the victim's house and began trying to run over the victim. The victim managed to evade getting hit for a time, but the truck eventually hit him in the chest once and as the victim ran toward his hogan for safety, the victim fell and the truck ran over his legs.

While the assault was happening, witnesses tried to throw bricks at the truck to get the driver to stop.

The suspect was caught a short time later, and investigators seized blood evidence from the front bumper of the truck.

Brian L. Begay, no age listed, was charged with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
