A Monroe County man faces a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) after having been involved in a head-on collision in which he was allegedly traveling the wrong way along a major Carbon County thoroughfare on Friday night.

Gregory Scott, 37, of Saylorsburg, will be charged with DUI as a result of the traffic accident on SR248, a half-mile west of the Bowmanstown exit in Lower Towamensing Township, around 10:20 p.m. on Feb. 27, according to troopers with state police at Lehighton.

Troopers said that Scott was driving a Subaru TriBeCa westbound in the eastbound passing lane while Jennifer Dowd, 24, of Lehighton, was driving a Buick LeSabre eastbound in the same lane. Dowd attempted to avoid Scott's TriBeCa, however she could not and both vehicles collided head-on.

While Scott was not injured Dowd was taken to Blue Mountain Health Systems, Gnaden Huetten Campus in Lehighton for treatment of a neck injury, troopers said.

Damage to both vehicles was disabling.

The eastbound lanes were closed to traffic at Club Road while crews worked clear the road and troopers investigated the accident. Only one lane of the westbound lanes was open to traffic after having briefly been closed to all traffic.

Numerous police, ambulance and fire crews responded to the scene, including the Bowmanstown Fire Company, Franklin Township police, Palmerton police and Palmerton EMS.
