NEW CASTLE, Del. - Police say a 44-year-old man has been arrested after he punched a clerk several times and stole money from a hotel in New Castle, Del.

Delaware State Police say they have arrested Robert E Dixon III of New Castle for robbery and related offenses after a vicious robbery occurred at the Super Lodge located on West Avenue in New Castle.

Troopers say they responded Friday night at 9:45 p.m. after 911 was called reporting the robbery.

According to investigators, a black male suspect entered the front lobby of the business and walked to the rear where he entered the desk area through an open door. Police say the suspect walked around to the desk where the clerk on duty was working and immediately punched the clerk in the face several times, then reached into the cash drawer and removed $170.

Authorities say the suspect told the victim not to call police and left the area. A separate employee witnessed what happened and video surveillance also captured the incident, police say.

The victim sustained significant injuries and was taken to Christiana Hospital and treated for multiple facial fractures.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect frequents the area. At approximately 11:30 p.m., a patrol trooper was checking the area and located Dixon in the Bowlerama parking lot.

This subject matched the description of the suspect and was detained without incident. A subsequent review of the video surveillance confirmed he was the robber, police say.

Dixon was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, theft and criminal mischief. He was locked up at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $106,000 secured bond.
