Michael Mamo, 33, asked his girlfriend for money to buy crack cocaine, the affidavit says, and when she refused, he grabbed a knife she was using to slice fruit.
The woman ran into a bedroom, where police say Mamo choked her until she blacked out, the affidavit said. After she came to, she began banging on the floor to alert neighbors, according to the affidavit. Mamo jumped on her throat while wearing shoes, causing the woman to lose sight for a few seconds, the affidavit says. She had broken capillaries in her eyes and a raspy voice, police said.
Mamo is charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years.
