A popular Twin Cities gospel singer and church choir director, Gregory Washington, 32, was charged with third degree sexual conduct for allegedly
having sex with a 15-year-old girl who sings in the choir.
The girl's mother found out about the incident after she noticed a ring that the girl said she got from Washington.
The mom asked her daughter about their relationship and the daughter admitted to
first having sex with Washington in September 2008 and at least two additional times after.
The police report also said the mom saw
sexually explicit text messages between her daughter and Washington.
The mom said the family knew Washington because he was a family acquaintance and they go to the same church. She told police that
Washington even attended the girl's 16th birthday party in October.
The police report said that the mom confronted Washington and he denied any sexual relationship, but admitted to giving the girl the ring.
Police received phone records from the girl's mom which show multiple phone calls and text messages between the teen and Washington.
Washington is already a registered sex offender. He pleaded guilty to criminal sexual conduct in 2003 in a case prosecutors said is similar to the recent one.
That case involved a 15-year-old girl he met while working as a choir director at another church in Minnesota.
