Bennie Harris Jr's namesake is dead of blunt-force head trauma

An unemployed Grantville man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of killing his 2-year-old son while alone with him in their home last week.

San Diego police detectives took Bennie Harris Jr., 28, into custody at a residence in El Cajon shortly before 9:30 a.m., SDPD Lt. Kevin Rooney said.

About 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the suspect made an emergency call from his home to report that his son, Bennie Harris III, was unconscious and had stopped breathing.

The boy was pronounced dead the next afternoon at Rady Children's Hospital. An autopsy determined that the toddler had succumbed to blunt-force head trauma, and the death was ruled a homicide.

Harris and his son lived in the residence near Qualcomm Stadium with the boy's mother, but the father was the only person with the child when he suffered the fatal injuries, according to Rooney.

Harris was expected to be booked into county jail on suspicion of murder and assault resulting in the death of a child under age 8.

Rooney said he was unsure who lives in the home where Harris was arrested, but that it might be a relative.

20 blows to the head??!! JFC, all this time when these kids are dying of blunt force trauma to the head, I was thinking it was ONE blow that took them out. Who the hell hits their kid in the head 20 fucking times??!! JFC.

I would love to be the prosecutor presenting this case. I would have a dummy made to the same size and weight as little Bennie and I would demonstrate just what twenty blows to a small child's head is like. Granted, it would be brutal to watch but far more effective than mere words. I don't see how a jury could possibly fail to convict after seeing how gruesome this little guy's death was.

I'd also like to be a prisoner (temporarily) in whatever prison this sack of useless flesh is sent to if he is convicted. I'd make it my only mission to see that twenty different guys each gave him twenty blows to his head daily until his head burst open like an overripe melon.

Twenty blows. Unbelievable. I'd love to know which blow was the fatal one. Or if it is even possible to tell.

A man who beat his 2-year-old son to death while the child’s mother was at work was sentenced Thursday to 20 years to life in state prison.

Bennie Lee Harris Jr., 29, pleaded guilty Dec. 28 to second-degree murder in the death of Bennie Lee Harris III.

The night before he was arrested Feb. 24, Harris told Bickham that he dropped the child while he was playing with him, she testified. San Diego police Detective Paul Conley testified that Harris told him he dropped the child four times the day the boy fell unconscious.

Dr. Christina Stanley of the county Medical Examiner’s Office testified that there were 20 separate impacts to the child’s head, along with bruises to the forehead, chest, legs, back and buttocks.

yeah great defense.... if you dropped your child once you sure (by accident) you would surely take extreme care for at least say the next week!! He claims he dropped his son 5 times within 2 days... yep that would be believable.... oh that's why he was found guilty!!

All while the mom was out trying to make enough money to feed them.

Poor little boy, may you forever be happy with the angels in heaven.

20 years, a year for each blow. I say it should be double that along with a thrashing that leaves him blind, and unable to speak or hold his shit.

Rest in peace baby Bennie Harris III. You had no father, so sorry.
