Alejandro Guadarrama, 40, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Saturday on investigation of attempted child kidnapping. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office said evidence left at the scene of the crime helped lead them to him.
On Jan. 18, police said a man entered a home in the Sandy area and made his way into a bedroom where two 11-year-old girls were sleeping on bunk beds.
"The suspect placed his hands over the eyes and mouth of the child sleeping on the bottom bunk and she immediately began to fight and scream," Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson said Saturday. "The struggle awakened the child on the top bunk and she turned on a bedroom light. This startled the suspect and the suspect ran out of the house and left the area in a white vehicle."

Officers had an arrest warrant for 40-year-old Alberto Alejandro Guadarrama of West Valley for attempted child kidnapping.
In the early-morning hours of Jan. 18, a man entered a Sandy home near 10300 South and Peony Way and tried to take an 11-year-old girl out of bed while her friend was sleeping on the top bunk. She started to scream and fight. That awakened the girl on the top bunk. She got up and turned the lights on, startling the man. He ran from the house, leaving some items behind.
Detectives say the items led them to get an arrest warrant for Guadarrama. Officers located and arrested him around noon Saturday in West Valley. He has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
Lt. Don Hutson of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office says the suspect was "known to the family," but wouldn't elaborate. He says it was not a randomly-committed crime.
