A 37-year-old North Muskegon man has been charged with child abuse after allegedly biting the face of a 5-year-old boy because he refused to let the man help him brush his teeth.

Randall Kirk McGee was arrested and lodged in the Muskegon County Jail after police were alerted by a school official about the boy's injuries.

McGee was arraigned on third-degree child abuse, a high-court misdemeanor.

According to the police report, the boy showed up to school Feb. 11 with a bruise and "red teeth marks" on his left cheek. An alarmed school official contacted Child Protective Services and police about the markings on the boy's face. When interviewed by authorities, the boy said McGee also bit him on the right ear and "pushed" his stomach.

The boy said it was the only time McGee had physically hurt him, according to the police report. Police also interviewed a witness to the biting incident.

McGee knew the boy's mother, police said. DUH! Strangers don't usually help with teeth brushing.

You know, I have had to restrain from smacking my kids but I never had to stop myself from biting them. It just wasn't ever in my head that that would be a good way to disipline.
