Five Northside middle school students were charged today with assaulting another student as retribution for declining to join their gang.
The students – four in Pike Township and one in Washington Township – were allegedly part of a gang named “The Hustle Boys Click,” said Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi.
Authorities said the gang members beat up another student outside of his home in front of his mother because he refused to join the Hustle Boys.
“We have a situation where one individual in this case refused to join this particular gang … was subsequently jumped and battered and beaten up in front of his own mother,” Brizzi said at a news conference outside Pike Township High School.
Police rounded up the students at their schools today and charged with various gang-related juvenile crimes which are the equivalent of felonies.
“It is not a normal school day when police come in with flak jackets and take kids out of school,” Brizzi said.
The students were between 13 and 15 years old, Two of them attend Guion Middle School and two go to Lincoln Middle, both in Pike Township. The other student attends Eastwood Junior High in Washington Township.
